I think they intend to use him instead of Wright and move Sheffield in to the rotation to replace Perez.

Free agent signings aren't so simple. You can't just say "We could've signed Hudson" because you don't know what Hudson was demanding from the Mets, the Mets overall finances, where Hudson wanted to play, etc.

Hudson said he wanted to play for the Mets and it's 4 mil and the wilpons have said omar could increase the budget to help the team win.
