I'm not much of a hockey fan, but those two teams looked pretty evenly matched to me. The only blowout game in the series was one that... wait for it... the Hurricanes won. Doesn't matter anyway, New Jersey goes home to ... New Jersey. Ugh.

Just glanced at the season series between the Devils & Canes, since I'm only a casual hockey fan, & the Canes won the season series 3-1, so I think it's safe to assume that the Canes are in fact better than the Devils

Not by much. The Ducks had the better defense considering they have a top 5 guy in Chris Pronger, and Hiller is very talented, close to Nabokov in my opinion. And they have the better experience. They also have the better coach.

The Devils should have outclassed the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes don't edge the Devils out in any area in my opinion.

Untrue. The Wings were the best team last year PROVEN when they WON the president's trophy. When the Lightning won the championship, they were the second best team points wise.

    Short sample size.

Both teams are tied in goals, but the Devils play in a trap system, and in the much harder division.
New Jersey allowed less goals despite having Brodeur out about 40% of the season
New Jersey has a top 3 goalie in the history of the NHL
New Jersey has the better experience in my opinion

I hear ya, the better team typically loses it's regular season & postseason series against the lesser team

Not sure experience is really in the Devils' favor. Canes won the Cup 2 years ago & were in the Finals again about 5 years ago.

I'm done, just being an ass on here cause I'm bored

Are you just looking to fight someone man?

I said it doesn't ALWAYS determine that. Did I say it never does? I said it's rare. Which it is isn't it? You listed two examples, great.

The Red Wings won the presidents trophy in 2006 and lost to Edmonton in the first round. No one said the Oilers were the better team. They beat the best team in Hockey.

The Ducks beat the #1 seed Wings in 2007 to get to the Cup. The team they played? The Senators bested the presidents trophy Buffalo Sabres in the conference semifinals.

The team the Lightning played seven games with the Calgary Flames were the six seed in the West. They were obviously not the best team in the Western Conference or were they?

In fact, since 2002, only the Red Wings in 2002 and 2008 won the presidents trophy and the Stanley Cup in the same season.

Best team determinate? No, best team in a short sample size series.

Your just looking for a fight aren't you?

They scored 11 goals in the series. Divide that by 7, and that's an average of one and a half goals per game. As usual, teams don't magically do better than their season sample size in most playoff series'. It is amazing how people still think this offense is good.
I don't remember ANYONE saying the Rangers were going to become this goalscoring monster in the playoffs...in fact, the only mention of it AT ALL was you making this exact same argument that nobody disagreed with then, either.

Yes they did. People implied that the Rangers could score since they have "good" players, and they "underachieved" this year, and how could Gomez, Drury, Naslund, and the rest not be able to score after a while?

Well fact is that the Rangers are full of overpaid, overrated, over-the-hill players, and have one of the worst offenses in the league, and will probably finish dead last in goals in 2009-2010.

If the Ducks beat Detroit, they will win the Cup, since they'd of beaten the 2 best teams in the league.
