That is the only explanation that would let him off the hook in this case. Not everyone who's not in the lineup is available. He does have to plan for all 162, while we all watch and agonize over every little move. One of his jobs is to make sure everybody stays fresh even if the fans want to kill him for not making such an obvious substitution. Or maybe they both had nagging, day to day type injuries that he didn't want to make worse. I know it's Trey (I love Kyle Farnsworth) Hillman but there might be a reason that we as fans are not privy to.
The problem with the whole day-off, stay fresh thing, is that managers have to plan that without losing games in the process. If Hillman's plan is to keep Teahen fresh for game 154, but in the process loses game 21 (or whichever it was today), it doesn't help the team. Each game now counts the same as a game in September. Besides, if you're just giving the guy a day-off to give him some rest, a pinch-hit in the 10th is not going to cause undue physical stress.

Yeah I need a Winn-Dixie grocery bag full of money right next to the VIP section...

I try to give managers and GM's the benefit of the doubt, b/c as you said, they have a lot more info than we do....that's why I have defended some of DM's moves that others ripped......but in this case and in the cases of Hillman falling in love with Farnsworth...there's simply no possible excuse. Just extremely, extremely stupid...no thought process whatsoever.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

Probably a good thing I had a study session to go to or I would have been pretty pissed watching that 7th inning.

One of the best Mariners-Oakland series.

Game 1 : Mariners win it on a walk off hit in the 9th
Game 2 : Oakland scores in the top of the 9th in a tie game to win
Game 3 : 15 inning game won by the Mariners with a walk off hit (by Jose Lopez..again!)

    wow.

As the Rockies saw today. Our pitching actually held them scoreless, but apparently Clint Hurdle doesn't listen to Old Joe there
