Backwards in sand for the last eight tenths of a mile without any tire pressure...just...wow..."For this one it was an open question whether I would finish or not," Martinez said. "It was a matter of doing one mile, then one mile, then one centimeter and another centimeter. It was brutal.
"I had to turn around and go backward in the sand with no air in the tires. There was no way I could push forward. Sand was a huge challenge. If I had high-pressure tires, I would have sunk. It worked. I did it. I finished."
