    No.

Its the engine and how players' progress, not how they are rated when you begin a game.

When you start just about any year, an 80 overall is a lineup player on any team.

Past 10 years, the same level of player is a bench player on a bad team and minor league player on a good team.
Yeah, I'm in year 2036 and the average overall rating for all teams is 95 now. 4 teams are below 90, and there quite a lot of 99's and 98's. A guy rated 95+ in the year 2009 would be a standout player and would probably put up good numbers. But in 2036, there are a LOT of players rated 95+, so not many are standing out.

Yep, and that really makes it hard to evaluate players. When you start the game, you KNOW (as much as is possible) that Albert Pujols, Hanley Ramirez, Tim Lincecum, and Johan Santana are going to be head and shoulders above the competition. When there are 50 or so players in the mid to high 90's, it's anybody's guess which of those guys are going to perform at the superstar level...and, year to year, those guys might change!

Clay said to try to fiddle with the new Player Settings to see if that helps the overall rating rise. Anybody have any ideas what settings we should play around with and test? See Unofficial Patch 12.07 for an explanation of the settings.

I hope there is a more permanent fix to this coming.

This is a serious bug that makes simming long term unenjoyable, and patching it up with band aid player settings is in my opinion not ideal.

I would imagine that if we can fiddle with the settings to get it good (which I'm skeptical of), Clay would then set those settings to the default.

This issue is still a deal-breaker for me. I will probably buy the game when this is fixed, if no other horrible errors crop up.

I just simmed to 2029 with 12.08 (to be posted soon, and Amateur Draft Talent set to '-100%).

I just simmed to 2029 with 12.08 (to be posted soon) and 'Amateur Draft Talent' turned down. Here are the results:

    95+: 0.0%
    90-94: 1.85%
    85-89: 4.14%
    80-84: 8.58%
    75-79: 11.00%
    70-74: 14.36%
    65-69: 16.56%
    60-64: 14.27%
    55-59: 9.44%
    50-54: 11.47%
    <50: 8.32%

There are a ton of players below 70, but I'm not too worried about them since they are just filling out the minors. Other than that, I think the distribution is much better.

I think that distribution is much more skewed the opposite way than it should be...but that's with ADT at -100%, correct?

I'm not convinced it's skewed too much in the opposite direction.

Start with your DB. Now add the 300 guys from the lower minors that you wish you had the time to add. I bet that would make your DB look a lot more like the above distribution.

In any case, that is with ADT (Amateur Draft Talent) at about "-50%". (I say "about" because I'm still messing with how the setting corresponds to talent levels).

Would you be able to post the major league levels, as I did in post #9 of this thread?

I'm actually going to post 12.08, because five people playing around with these settings will have more success than just me doing it.

Right now I think I'm getting some better results by decreasing 'Potential (Upside)' and leaving Amateur Draft Talent alone. That way, it doesn't decrease the number of major-league ready players on draft day.

Re: 12.03 / Into the future, overall ratings rise

Just players on MLB roster, as I did in post #9:

    2009:
    95+ - 6, 0.8%
    90-94 - 40, 5.3%
    85-89 - 87, 11.6%
    80-84 - 201, 26.8%
    75-79 - 278, 37.1%
    70-74 - 127, 16.9%
    65-69 - 11, 1.5%

    2029:

    95+ - 13, 1.7%
    90-94 - 45, 6.0%
    85-89 - 114, 15.2%
    80-84 - 298, 39.7%
    75-79 - 218, 29.1%
    70-74 - 60, 8.0%
    65-69 - 2, 0.3%

    Needless to say, much improved.
