I've always wondered this, but never asked anyone for fear of looking stupid.

Do left-handed batters generally hit better against left or right-handed pitchers? Same question for right-handed batters.

Exactly, that's why there's a relief pitcher called a "left-handed specialist", because they face the opposing team's left-handed hitters late in the game.

But then there's Ken Griffey, who can't hit lefties..but he is a lefty so he fits the stereotype
