    Nady Over Swisher

What?! In what way is Xavier Nady better than Swisher? Boston and Tampa are probably celebrating though.

Uh, hello, if you are playing Scrabble, Xavier Nady scores way more points than Nick Swisher. Get a clue.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

Nady fits the profile a lot more - lots of talent, never really put it together; constantly unshaven look; detached personality, and looking to cash in. What says Yankees more than that??

Swisher seems a bit more like an all-arounder - playing different positions, a bit more scrappy, maybe slightly less homerun power. Team player? Trying hard? Eh. Bench him!

I dunno, if they use Swisher as sort of a Super-Utilility guy, giving him starts at 1B, all three OF spots and DH, he could still get a ton of playing time while letting the regular starters at those positions get a breather. To me, that might make more sense.

This really isn't news... All Yankee fans knew that Nady was going to start over Swisher... Nady came off of his best season ever, and Swish came off of his worst season ever (plus they were equals in ST).

Swisher, IMO, is a better player, has more power, way better OBP, and plays slightly better defense. Nady has better contact and power is somewhat comparable. I think Swisher will be starting by June, but that's just my opinion... both are good players.

That wouldn't be a bad plan at all, but I have some doubts that's what Girardi has in mind.

Personally, I'd rate Swisher as slightly better than Nady, but you do have to wonder what was wrong with him last season.

Chances are it was just luck. His BABIP was the only thing out of line with the rest of his career.

    Re: Nady Over Swisher

It's sad that Swisher has been relegated to this view that he's a "broken player" or something after his subpar 2008. Even though he showed that he can play one hell of a 1B, and even though he started to pick up in the second half. If Swisher didn't suck in CF, this wouldn't even be a conversation, and he'd be allowed to return to his .260/.380/.490.

Swisher is an undervalued commodity. A team like the Braves or Angels could have done - could still do - very well for themselves by swooping in and offering next to nothing (relatively speaking) for him.

Hell, if I ran the Dodgers I'd try to work out a 3-way trade to get Swisher and Hughes or Kennedy while sending Loney to the third team and maybe Pierre to the Yankees.

So the Yankees would give up Swisher and Hughes (or Kennedy) for Juan Pierre? I don't think I'd ever make that trade.

Plus something from the third team, of course.

God knows who the third team would be, so God therefore also knows what the Yankees would get.

Show me a team that wants Loney and I'll show you a team that has something the Yankees want.

Really there's nothing Nady can do better in a normal year except maybe hit for a better average, but Swisher's age appeal and defense blow Nady out of the water IMO.

That guy from the third team better be one HELL of a player/prospect for that trade to remotely resemble anything realistic.

Well, if you're trying to determine which of them to sign to a multi-year contract, obviously the fact that Swisher's 4 years younger make him a better option, but if they're both already on your roster, the age difference isn't really of very much importance in deciding who should start. And Swisher's defense isn't really that much better than Nady's in right (disclaimer: I haven't really studied their defense that much, that's just my initial impression).

Ive watched him a lot when he was with the A's. Great 1st baseman, but more than capable right fielder or centerfielder when called upon due to injury or some sort. He is much better in right though than center. But having a guy that can play more than one position is very valuable.
