In retrospect, banning every user and using replacement players for a couple years seems like a better idea than just simply letting it happen.
    No thanks.

it would be interesting to see how many homers Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn, Jim Thome, etc could hit against replacement quality pitchers though

I'm completely lost. How the hell would banning every user result in this:
Alex Rodriguez would have come along and delivered a Hall of Fame career anyway. The Cooperstown careers of Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds would be intact. Ken Caminiti and Steve Bechler might still be alive.

he is saying if roids had been caught and dealt with earlier, Bonds, Roger, A Rod would have never used and they would have still had HOF careers anyway with out any doubts about their numbers.

I don't think that logic is necessarily true (that they wouldn't have used).

I guess he is going along with the theory that Bonds did it out of jealousy over Sosa and McGuire and that A Rod felt pressure to live up to his pay? I agree that reasoning is dubious at best.

I don't see how starting penalties earlier would've stopped those situations from happening. The players would've just tried harder to get undetectable stuff and been more secretive about it.

or it would have most likely evolved the drugs to even better less detectable drugs, which is probably what has happened now. ..
