My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

Really? Tell that to Cubs fans who showed up in droves for..what...5 DECADES of incompetence? Yeah, REALLY panned out well. Do you think Nationals fans showing up every game would REALLY have helped? It just would have given Jim Bowden more money to go sign 3 more outfielders. And my oh my have Orioles fans been paid back for THEIR years of good attendance.

It all comes down to a team being RUN WELL. A team NOT run well is going to suck, irregardless of how much money they have to throw around.

I have never understood this ridiculous notion that fans owe some sort of loyalty to a team that isn't going anywhere. Those Cubs fans who showed up decade after decade to a team that wasn't even trying to get better? They weren't loyal...they were idiots.

Well, ya, a team most certainly has to be run well. I am saying that if a team is ran well, and fans show up, I see no problem why the team wouldn't have more financial resources to work with.

If Yankee, Red Sox, Cubs, Phillies, Angels, Dodgers, etc... fans didn't show up, their owners wouldn't bother spending money. The fans show up, those owners are willing to spend the money to compete. This all of course, hinders on if the team has an owner interested in winning or making money.

That's 3 more "5-tool" outfielders that Bowden would've signed. Some men get "man" crushes. Bowden is in a permanent state of "5-tool player" crush. He just can't help himself.

Wow, that took all of 4 minutes OFG. Don't let anyone call you old again. I'm very happy for you and other long suffering Washington baseball fans. Is your post about 10 words along with the maximum allowable 10 extreme "Cheshire Cat-like" grinning smilies?

I believe it goes like this: team gets good, more fans show up, team gets more money to spend so they can keep the team good and fans keep coming.

The key is it starts at the "Team gets good" part and not the "Fans show up" part.

I think IRL it is more complex than that.

Tampa Bay got good, and the fans started coming. In 2006 I could attend a game and have a whole section to myself - I'm talking 15,000 fans max, and that was to a Sox game.

Last year, the Sox games were packed. And there were actual Rays fans...jerseys, caps, those annoying cowbells. These fans didn't exist in 06. I took a buddy to a game in late 06, and he bought a rays cap - I swear, it was the only sale they made in weeks. The dust was thick on that hat.

There are probably all kinds of combinations, but seeing that park finally become a home for Rays fans in stead of 'Fenway South' as it had been, is a good thing.

Yes, but its the basics. And the "If you come we'll build a ballteam" philosophy is preposterous. Its "If you build a ballteam, we'll come." that is true.

So if I built a ball team here, people would come?

So you can tell if I have a good or bad ball team based on the location of my stadium?

A LOT of things factor into a teams economic success. Winning is one. Location is probably the biggest.

Expecting a team with 10 years of history to be in the same economic situation as a team that has existed for 100 years, is kind of ludicrous.
