I watched both Netherlands vs. Dominican Republic games, so I understand how they won both games. What I didn't know was how bad their stats really were. For example,
In matchup 1 between Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands had 3 runs and 3 hits. Their three hits were all singles.
COMBINED, the three singles had a TOTAL DISTANCE of 89 feet. If you take the three hits and combined them into one hit straight down the line, and it wouldn't even reach the base...

Let's not forget a key stat against the Dominican Republic: 6 Errors in their two losses to the Netherlands. The Netherlands scored 5 runs in their two games against the DR. 4 of them were unearned.
In a tiny sample of only two games, even the smallest defensive miscues add up to make a big difference.
