Efrain Valdez also lost his case and was awarded a 1 year deal worth $ 2 mil

    Opening Day of Free Agency

11/7- The Yanks go down an all too familiar road and sign an aging veteran.... Kirk Gibson leaves Detroit for the Big Apple. I'd rather have seen him in Dodger Blue. The 38 year old Gibson will take his 470 career homers for the next two years where he will patrol LF.

11/7- Rickey Henderson comes back to the States as he leaves Toronto for the sun and warmth of the NL Champions San Diego Padres. How often does one get to type that phrase?

11/7- Atlee Hammaker thought 16 years was enough of the Kansas City BBQ and moves to the southside of Chicago.

11/7- Houston gets in on the action. Remember when they stunk? They sign former Padre Alex Sanchez to a 5 year deal.

11/7- Former Brave Brian Dahman signs a 4 year deal with the Cubs.

    The Rest of November...

11/8- Rodney McCray does the sensible thing and leaves Philly for Milwaukee.

11/8- St Louis loses Juan Guzman to the Twins. He will take over the rotation spot vacated by the retiring Frank Viola.

11/9- Toronto steals Jimmy Jones from Kansas City where he never lived up to expectations.

11/9- Chicago Cubs find their every day thirdbaseman by coming to terms with former Blue Jay Jaime Allen.

11/10- Ray Lankford leaves Kansas City to patrol left field in Detroit. Can he fill the hole left by Kirk Gibson?

11/11- The Yankees sign the biggest pitching prize out there on the market. They pick up former Expo and 2 time 20 game winner (57 games won over the last 3 seasons) Sergio Valdez. Yanks are gearing up.

11/11- California trades C Jeff Reed (33/87) and LF Raul Gonzalez (22/64) to Texas for RP Barry Manuel (30/88).

11/13- Former Brave Chris Bosio continues the tradition of Atlanta pitchers moving out west. He signs with the Giants.

11/15- One of my more hated former players Trevor Hoffman signs with the Jays. He'll come out of the pen in long relief. He'll be hurt by April 15th.

11/17- Al Pedrique leaves Milwaukee to take over shortstop in Kansas City.

11/22- California continues to wheel and deal. They send recently acquired RP Barry Manuel (30/88) and 1B Robert Fick (21/58) to Montreal in exchange for RP Josisas Manzanillo (28/79), LF Donzell McDonald (21/55), and SP Eric Nolte (31/75).

11/30- David Cone couldn't stand to be away from Chris Bosio. He also signs on with the San Francisco Giants. The Braves look forward to hitting many homers off of him next season.

    December Rolls Through

12/1- Cincinnati picked up a new firstbaseman when Rob Lukachyk signed. He hit .302/22/86 with Milwaukee last season.

12/1- Bruce Ruffin signed with Cleveland. He escapes the wasteland that is Philadelphia.

12/2- The Yankees keep on signing people. This time they pick up Darrin Fletcher from San Francisco to be the new catcher.

12/12- Last season's AL stolen base leader Alex Cole signs with Cleveland after spending last season in Milwaukee.

12/12- Oakland and Houston agree to a 5 player deal. Oakland sends 2B Mark McLemore (31/83) and RP Mike Stanton (28/84) to Houston in exchange for 1B Paul Carey (28/81), RP Dave Meads (32/75), and LF Javier Ortiz (33/75).

12/13- Ellis Burks takes his underachieving ways to Cleveland. Perhaps he will be a Rule V pickup as he is currently in the minors.

12/20- The Yankees trade SP Tavo Alvarez (24/82) to Texas for RP Cliff Brantley (27/68) and RP Jeff Bronkey (30/78).

12/25- Merry Christmas! The Mets send RP Ron Mathis (37/68) and SP Ron Nosek (29/74) to California for recently acquired RP Josias Manzanillo (28/79) and 3B Melvin Mora (24/60).

12/28- Bo Porter leaves Oakland for the OC when he signs on with California.

    The New Year

1/1- California officially changes their name over to the Anaheim Angels.

1/2- Kevin Batiste leaves KC for the warehouse district of Baltimore.

1/4- Fan favorite Greg Jelks leaves Texas for Oakland.

1/4- Oakland also signs SP Chuck Smith away from Florida.

1/10- Boston fans everywhere groan as Phil Plantier signs on with Anaheim.

1/14- Seattle signs Shane Mack away from Los Angeles. He will have a spring training battle with Reggie Williams for the everyday centerfield job.

2/2- Former Atlanta Brave Vince Coleman signs on with the Dodgers where he will try to make the team. There's little chance he does as he has lost some of his skills with age.

2/3- Kansas City sends SP Kirt Ojala (27/74) to Anaheim for RP Jeff Richardson (32/70), CF Steve Beiser (28/73),SP Chuck Finley (33/71) and SP Kevin Blakenship (33/67).

2/7- Anaheim picks up their new starting secondbaseman when "The Gov" Jerry Browne signs with them.

2/18- Danny Tartabull signs a minor league deal with the Dodgers.

2/23- Julio Franco leaves the beaches of San Diego for the mountains of Colorado.

2/25- Rick Reed gets out of the white socks and into some Dodger blue.

2/27- Detroit signs former Brave Tim Raines. He'll provide some depth off the bench.

As always, division winners were excluded from drafting. Here's the results...

Yeah, the AL East is close to getting out of whack. Boston has some problems with overall talent. Toronto is still decent, but they're aging in a big way. I'm still not sure what's going on with Anaheim. Maybe they'll start to turn things around soon.

The East looks like many people thought it would look like this year. With alsmot all the teams being really close

Detroit certainly reloaded. I'll post a shot of the Boston lineup later on. You'll see why I think they are a little overrated through the projected records.
