I think the Nat's have shown their willingness to spend money in the draft recently. They lost Crow last year, but it was over less than a million dollars, so that tells me it was a matter of stubbornness on Bowden's side, probably combined with a lack of desire to play for the Nationals on Crow and his agent's side, and they have signed guys like McGeary in the draft, who were passed on by other teams due to the likelihood of high demands.
the fact that it was over less than a million dollars is what gives me pause however as you said that is just one case, they have spent in other cases. I am sure there were also other factors besides the money in why they didn't sign Crow, not that I have any inside knowledge or anything. The thing I am mildly afraid the Nats wil do is try to draft players that are nearly "major league ready" so to speak to try to turn things around quickly on the cheap, I hate hearing that term bandied about. You know guys that could be ready to play in a year or 3, usally college players.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .
