The Kansas City - Seattle Connection!

This is pretty small news, but I thought it was amusing.

    http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/b...asp?source=rss

    Why is this amusing?

1 - Kansas now has quite a few former Mariners' on their team (Horacio Ramirez, Jose Guillen, Willie Bloomquist, Hug Tulett, Miguel Olivio, anybody else?)

2 - Hulett was supposed to be Willie Bloomquist's replacement in Seattle, so is he going to replace Bloomquist in Kansas now?

Personally I think Hulett is better than Bloomquist so it's going to be interesting to see what happens to Teahan and Bloomquist.

It sort of reminds me how the Kansas City Athletics gave away most if not all their talent to the New York Yankees in exchange for washed up players and cash. Most notably Hank Bauer for Roger Maris.

But the difference is, the Yankees prospered, KC and Seattle still suck when exchanging players.

The trade was discussed before 07 season. Briefly discussed here, will look for more links.

More links (I guess the M's declined the trade):

How insane must you be to even entertain that offer if you're Kansas City? Jeez. I don't care how turned off you are by a dude's personality, you don't give up a guy in his early 20's that has an OPS of nearly 1.000 in the minors for a mid-20's shortstop that can barely keep his OBP above .300. Eek! Royals fans dodged a bullet with that one.

The only person I have heard those rumors from is Bob Dutton from the KC Star. Every other source for KC info that I know of says that the rumor is not true as a straight up deal. From what I hear, other prospects coming to KC would've been required (don't know who). There is no way in hell DM would trade Butler straight up for Betancourt. I am sure there were talks involving those two players...but not as a straight up deal. That's ridiculous and I've been assured that they are false from sources closer to the situation that I trust.

So...basically, Bob Dutton is a complete idiot. That's my take on the situation.

EDIT: These rumors are being fueled by the same guy who thinks and has advocated that we trade both Mark Teahen and one of our better pitching prospects for Jeff Francouer. I rest my case...Bob Dutton is not to be listened to.

That's entirely possible too...and probably the truth.

I do think there is truth to the rumor that DM wanted to get rid of Butler b/c he was really out of shape and can't field...but I don't think he was willing to sell THAT low on him. Butler is in a lot better shape as of now...so hopefully Dutton can let those insane rumors go....
