Schmidt has 1,500 or so more plate appearances, and Jones has yet to have a decline phase that would bring down his overall rate (though at the rate he's going, he may not ever have that decline ). Schmidt had the better peak, as well. Schmidt had 10 seasons at 150+. Jones has had 7, 4 of which have come in the last 4 years in which he's played between 109 and 134 games. Schmidt's 150 OPS+ seasons came in seasons of games: 162, 160, 154, 160, 150, 102 (strike), 148, 154, 151, 160. Schmidt provided much greater in-season value with his bat.

It's the difference in the field, though, that really solidifies it for Schmidt.
