yeah if you follow the Mariners at all after Abreu was pretty much out of our reach it came down to Garret Anderson or Griffey. I would rather not have him, but oh well.

The thing I'm afraid of is watching him well past his prime and in the decline won't be fun and I really hope that this won't be a case where you wonder why he even came back. I also don't want their to be any drama because he still is a prima donna.

As long as he knows he's going to be a DH, only see right handed pitchers, and if we're somehow in contention, and he's hitting for what he's projected to hit, he needs to be benched for someone like Clement. If he really has no problem with all of those then I have no problem signing him.

Oh, I'm also not looking forward to all the reports in the news and such about Griffey and how he's wiser and smarter and brings leadership this team needs, etc...

I like Ken Griffey a lot. He is probably my favorite all-time player. I think he still has a few good 15-20 homer seasons left in him, and I think he'll perform well for Seattle.

I think this is amazing, Being a life long Mariner fan this is what I want to see, Griffey to retire as a Mariner. I think I expect him to hit around .260/.330/.800 which are actually almost too good for him. I hope that since he is back, and he will be the fan favorite again, something will come out of him, hopefully it is his fire.

Griffey has been abysmal against lefties for the last 3 years. Vs. righties though, he's been as good as the average DH or better:

2006: .278/.346/.523
2007: .300/.402/.540
2008: .272/.379/.462

If he's platooned, he's a valuable DH.

Exactly I agree with you guys. He has to be platooned, but I think the biggest issue with signing him is giving PA's to the younger guys.

Along with Washburn, Silva, Johjima, Batista, Bedard all bouncing back to at least a decent season or returning 100% from injury problems last year

Clement, Balentien, Gutierrez, Aaradsma, Felix (to a lesser extent), Cedeno, Morrow, and anybody else I'm missing all need to make significant progress to get this team to where it needs to be. You could probably throw Lopez and Yuni in their as well since both have the possibility of being in our future but are both big question marks moving forward.

I really think the key to the Mariners this year lies with Clement, Gutierrez, Felix/Bedard/Morrow and somewhat Balentien. All of these guys have high expectations but have yet to put it all together or have injury problems. This team could potentially compete in a weak AL West this year if they get a strong year out of a few of their guys.
