Coach: It's good to be back in your good graces.
Jeffy: Don't rush me! I'm going at my own pace. You'll just have to learn to be patient...
RSR: Yeah, and (I've simmed through April) he's turned out to be a pretty decent player. Lots of speed and solid glovework, but he's also hit the ball pretty well.
BINGLE: Sh! I gave you Taubensee, that should be enough to keep you quiet!

BIG MOMENTS IN APRIL
APRIL 2, 2000
REDS OPEN SEASON WITH 6-1 WIN
In what was supposed to be a glorious homecoming for Ken Griffey, Jr., Dmitri Young stole the show.
Young came to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st inning, driving a Jason Schmidt fastball into the right-centerfield bleachers for a grand slam home run. Young became the 25th player to accomplish this feat on Opening Day, and the first since Mark McGwire in 1998.
The 4 runs were more than enough for Pete Harnisch, who kept the Pirates at bay (pun intended) for 8 innings. Scott Sullivan pitched a perfect 9th inning to start the season on a high note.
Griffey went 1-2 with 2 walks. He scored 2 runs, including one on Young’s grand slam.
APRIL 3, 2000
400!
In his 2nd game as a Red, Ken Griffey, Jr. gave the Riverfront fans history. Junior hit two 2-run home runs, providing all the offense in a 4-1 Reds win over Pittsburgh.
After grounding out in his first at-bat, Junior stepped in with the Reds trailing 1-0. Barry Larkin had walked to lead off the 4th, and was still there one out later. Pirates starter Kris Benson hung a 3-2 slider, and Griffey mashed it into the left-field bleachers for career home run #399, tying him with Al Kaline for 30th all-time.
2 innings later, the pattern repeated itself: Larkin walked to lead off the inning (one of 3 walks for Barry on the day), Casey grounded out, and Junior stepped in. This time, Benson hung a 2-1 slider, which Griffey deposited into the upper deck, passing Kaline, taking sole possession of 30th all-time, and becoming the youngest player in Major League history to hit 400 home runs.
The game was stopped for 10 minutes, as the fans and players on both teams saluted Griffey for his accomplishment. The ball was retrieved by a 13-year-old boy, who got to meet the superstar, and left with an autographed bat for his trouble.
In other game news, Denny Neagle kept the Pirates off the basepaths for 8 innings, and Scott Sullivan nailed the door to record his first save of the season.
For the record, Junior has a little under 2 ½ years to hit another 100 home runs to become the fastest to 500. Next in Griffey’s sights? Baltimore 3B Cal Ripken, Jr., who has compiled 402 (and counting) in his career.
APRIL 14, 2000
COMEBACK KIDS! REDS RALLY TO BEAT CUBS
After Denny Neagle surrendered 6 runs to begin the game, things looked bleak for Cincinnati. However, they were just getting started. The Reds peeled off 10 unanswered runs to storm back and take victory.
While the bullpen provided 6 shutout innings of relief, the offense quickly went to work. However, the momentum-shifting blow occurred when Ken Griffey, Jr. blasted his 6th home run of the year, turning a 6-3 Cubs lead into a tie ballgame in the 7th inning.
The home run was Junior’s 404th of his career, moving him past Cal Ripken, Jr. of Baltimore. He turns his attention now to Duke Snider (407).
The Reds record now stands at 7-5. They sit 1 game behind the NL Central-leading Cardinals, but lead the Wild Card standings by mere percentage points.

A 3-headed monster has been sighted in Louisville: Adam Dunn, Calvin Pickering, and Josh Hamilton. The 3 are easily the best trio in all of AAA, hitting a combined .342, with 18 HR and 69 RBI. Hamilton also has 7 steals.
In Chattanooga, Chris Denorfia is hitting .400, with 21 runs scored. I would call him up to AAA, but we kinda have a logjam of talented outfielders. Hector Mercado, Lance Davis, and Luke Hudson all put up solid numbers on the mound.
In Clinton, Norris Hopper and Stephen Smitherman are both hitting over .400, with Travis Dawkins not far off at .388. Unfortunately, only Jared Burton has stood out on the mound.
In Billings, Ray Olmedo is showing promise, hitting .325 with 3 steals, while he is yet to make an error in the field. On the mound, Phil Dumatrait and Sean Henn have made themselves into a formidable 1-2 punch, each striking out 19 batters.

BIG MOMENTS IN MAY
MAY 15, 2000
REDS SURVIVE LATE CUBS SCARE, WIN 6-4
MOVE OVER DUKE: HERE COMES JUNIOR
Despite nearly throwing the game away, the Reds managed to hang on to beat Chicago, 6-4. Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his 10th home run of the season to spark the decisive 4-run 3rd inning. The win gives the Reds a 3-game winning streak, their 2nd streak of that length this month (they had a 5-game run to begin May).
After hitting home runs in back-to-back games, Ken Griffey, Jr. has moved past Duke Snider on the all-time home run list. Junior now looks to pass Darrell Evans at 414 home runs.

REDS OPEN INTERLEAGUE PLAY WITH WIN OVER ROYALS
Ken Griffey, Jr. went 3-for-3, hitting his 12th home run in the process, sparking the Reds to a 9-4 victory over the Royals in the start of interleague play.
Griffey has been ridiculously in the zone as of late, hitting .524 over his last 10 games, and is currently riding an 18-game hit streak.

JOLLY FARM REVUE
The ‘Batsmen’ (Dunn, Hamilton, and Pickering) cooled off a little for Louisville, but the numbers are still great. Dunn: .325, 17 HR, 57 RBI. Pickering: .343, 11 HR, 55 RBI. Hamilton: .358, 11 HR, 50 RBI, 9 SB.
Chattanooga’s star CF Chris Denorfia cooled a little, and his average is down to .374. However, Austin Kearns has found his power stroke, and now has 11 home runs. Luke Hudson (3-3, 3.02 ERA, 46 K) continues to perform at a high level.
Clinton had to deal with the loss of Stephen Smitherman for most of the month. But Hopper, Dawkins, and Brandon Larson managed to pick up the load. Marcus McBeth (3-1, 2.86 ERA, 2 SV) was the unquestioned star on the mound.
Billings’ Big Two (Dumatrait and Henn) continued to perform well for their level. Olmedo was injured for the back half of the month, but Dernell Stenson is hitting .380 with 3 HR, well enough for a promotion to AA Chattanooga.

BIG MOMENTS IN JUNE

HUDSON PITCHES WELL IN DEBUT, REDS WIN IN 10 INNINGS
In need of a spot starter, the Cincinnati Reds called on AA Chattanooga’s ace; 23-year-old Luke Hudson delivered. Hudson allowed only 2 runs in 7 innings, but left with the game tied. The Reds would win in extra innings thanks to a 2-run home run by Michael Tucker in the 10th inning. Ken Griffey, Jr. helped the rookie starter out with a 1st-inning home run, his 15th on the season.
Hudson was called upon to start due to injuries to Ron Villone and Osvaldo Fernandez, the two pitchers that have occupied the #5 spot in the rotation this season. Villone is set to return from his month-long injury before the next turn in the rotation. Hudson will be optioned back to the minor leagues, but will be promoted to AAA Louisville to further his development.

OOC: I was offered this trade on June 3: 1B Frank Thomas for C Jason LaRue and OF Josh Hamilton. It took some serious thought before I had to decline it. If this were reality, I would’ve laughed all the way to the bank…

REDS WIN 7-2; DUNN 0-3 IN DEBUT
With the loss of outfielder Michael Tucker for 2 weeks, the Reds called up prospect Adam Dunn to play in the outfield. Fortunately, the Reds didn’t need him, as Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his 16th home run of the year in a Reds win.
Dunn went 0-3, with 2 strikeouts in what could best be described as a frustrating debut for the 20-year-old.

EARLY FIREWORKS DISPLAY ENDS IN CUBS’ FAVOR
SOSA & GRIFFEY PUT ON A SHOW; JUNIOR MAKES HISTORY
Ken Griffey, Jr. hit 2 home runs in today’s ballgame. Unfortunately for him and the Reds, Sammy Sosa hit 3, including the eventual game winner, and the Cubs won 8-7.
Junior’s 2 homers gave him 416 on his career, breaking a tie with Darrell Evans for 27th place. Griffey now sets his sights on Hall-of-Famer Billy Williams (426).

REDS RELEASE 6 TO CUT PAYROLL
Norm Charlton was one of 6 players to be released by the Reds today. Pitchers Scott Winchester and Scott MacRae, 3Bmen Mike Bell and Brandon Larson, and once-promising shortstop Travis Dawkins were the other casualties by this effort to increase flexibility with the trade deadline approaching.
this is great keep up the good work
