    Joe Torre's book....

By now i'm sure all of you have heard the exerpts...Torre's book outing a number of players and incidents either directly or through Verducci.

Was he out of line, is this kind of stuff supposed to remain behind closed doors?

I'm going to reserve judgment until I get around to actually reading it.

Everything I've heard about it on the radio strongly suggests that the material sounds a lot less verboten if you read it in context, as it's written.

Supposedly, it sounds a lot more sleazy when taken as sound bites, or short excerpts.

Kinda like Game of Shadows, I guess. That book had a reputation as sort of "piling onto" Bonds, but when you actually read it, it's not that Bonds-centric.

    Same.

I voted other. I don't think he's "out of line"....My "issue" with it is what I posted in another thread. I just don't understand why he would choose to write it at this point in time. It seems like a stupid PR move. If I was him, I'd have waited til I was retired to do it.

A PR move??? If thats the case its the dumbest PR move of alltime. He's got nothing but bad press from it. What does he have to gain from a PR prospective by doing this?

I think Verducci came to him with the idea, and Torre said fine. I don't see why it matters when he writes it, now or after he's out of the game...and I think he felt the same.

That's exactly what I said. In terms of PR, it was an incredibly dumb move.

Mostly because he is still interacting with people in the game, so anything that might tarnish your reputation is probably best left until you're out of the game.

got ya....i took from it initially that you were saying it was done as a PR move. if that was his reasoning, it was completely dumb.

Aso for how its effected his PR, I really don't think he cares about that.

That's what my point is. I don't understand why, considering he's still in the game, so his reputation is going to affect how players view him, relationships with other front offices, etc.

    Wow.

Tom Verducci said on WEEI today that he actually started this project with Torre while he was still with the Yankees.

Yeh, I thought so, too (again, without having yet read the book). I specifically posted that point for your benefit, HGM.

In the interview, Verducci addresses things like the timing of the book, and airing of dirty laundry. It just ended a few minutes ago. Usually 'EEI gets around to posting them on their site (as streaming or MP3) pretty quickly (by the next day, at the latest).

I'll throw up a link if it shows up today (and I happen to catch it), in case anyone's interested.

    Edit

    Here it is, streaming: Verducci

    Or, the MP3 is here.
