well mets..we agree on something...finally.

Whats classless IMO is all those who cry about sports figures giving too many "cliches" and not being real, honest or giving insight into whats really happening in sports. Than when someone finally is real, they get lambasted. Curt Schilling is no different, same with Kurt Warner. These people don't hide their thoughts even when they are unpopular, they give off the cuff honest insight...something everyone claims to want until they get it.

Joe Torre's book was about how he got "treated like crap"? That's not what the excerpts I've seen show.

Either way, I don't care about whether or not it was classless. It certainly is baffling though...why would he write all this crap while he's still in the game? I mean, I don't care about it. It doesn't change my opinion of him or any of the people he talks about. I just find it really odd that he'd choose to do this now.

I dont think Joe is classless for writing a tell all book. If anything I would be fascinated with what he has to say because of his demeanor on the field. He always carried himself with class and I find it surprising he wrote such a book and I would love to see what he has to say. Now if it was a manager on the opposite end, who was known for throwing tantrums and he wrote a tell all book, it would be much different.

Just me I s'pose. He's writing about things that happened behind closed doors, in situations where players felt safe to let whatever hair George let them have down. The reason for the book is not revenge, he took millions of dollars in salary from the Yankee's. Its not to clear the air of any misunderstandings, to bring insite to history. Its just spreading gossip, telling us what other players thought of A-Rod or Jeter, you simply don't do that and hold any claim to having class. Making money..yes.
As Houston GM said, the timing is odd, and the whole thing seems way out of charater. But it is what it is, a violation of trust with his players and a classless thing to do.

I don't think the players at all have a different view of him. I think it was about insight into history, and his days with the Yankees. I've heard interviews with Torre, Cash, Jeter and many who had read the book and the exerpts greatly are taken out of context. Jeter and cash haven't taken it as a violation or classless....have you read the book or are you basing this assumption on the exerpts released???
