    Manny to St. Louis

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/0...ramirez-7.html

I am a Cards fan. And I hope this doesn't happen. Too many power righties in the lineup with no balance. Manny would be too expensive and not worth half of what he will get. He is a great hitter, would make everyone else better. But I truley hope this doesn't happen.

    Re: Manny to St. Louis

I am a huge cards fan, but I don't like this at all.
    1. Cards would lose their number one draft pick in 09
    2. Too many power righties, no balance to offset it.
    3. No leadoff type hitters if you make the outfield, ankiel, ludwick, manny.
    4. All he has to do is keep being Manny and St. Louis would hate him, and I believe he knows his personality won't fit in St. Louis

    Reasons I would like this:
    1. If Albert went down with an injury, our lineup would still be strong
    2. Albert won't be getting walked anymore
    3. Inserting a player of Manny's caliber into any lineup, will make everyone else better.

In concslusion, if Manny was cheap, I wouldn't mind putting him in there and platooning everyone else and making an outfield by committee. Fact is, this isn't the right fit for St. Louis, and I hope they don't make this move.

Unlike you guys, I really want Manny Ramirez to go to my favorite team.

Since the Angels hardly even tried to bring back Mark Teixeira, they need a power bat, mainly to protect Vladimir Guerrero or vice versa. Manny Ramirez is obviously a huge upgrade from Juan Rivera in the outfield.
I'm not sure about his personality..not very many people can stand him..but it seems like he would fit better with the Angels than a team like the Mets or Cardinals.
    Gooo Angels!

I've made a few posts places about the benefits if the pirates would sign manny. His contract would basically get paid for simply by more fans coming through the gates simply because of his signing.

If your a playoff contender why wouldn't you want Manny on your team? Or even a barely on the outside looking in team?

I dont mind Manny that much, I wouldn't mind him on my team. But, I don't want him only because hes 36 and my team isn't going to contend next year, and we need to focus our money on our farm system and pitching more than hitting. But yeah, if my team was close to contending, I would like Manny on my team. Don't see why everyone doesn't want him

I don't want him as I stated above. He isn't a very good fit, especially with his price tag. If he was left handed, wasn't a type A, or cost less. Or if he was a more defensively strong outfielder. he isn't who the cardinals should focus on at all. The only positive thing is his offensive prescence in our lineup...and that isn't worth what he would cost.

exactly. yeah, the Pirates aren't ready to contend...NO WAY IN HELL. but with an attendance that was 28th in the league and last september when manny and the dodgers came they sold more tickets in the 4 games combined then they did in the other home games in the month of September. They averaged I believe if I'm right (I was down for all 4 games) around 32,000 a night. Season average was around 22,000 a night, and rest of September was around like 18,000 a night. They nearly DOUBLED the butts in the seats simply because manny and the dodgers.

If the Pirates want to make a profit Manny would be good. Even on 2 years 45 mil. You figure if they can average 10,000 more tickets a night over a year at say 25 a pop that's 250,000 each game for 81 games, then you have the concession revenues as well. But hey, that's just me. It would also prove to the fans they are willing to get the talent to compete so even when Manny leaves then McCutchen and the young guys are ready. him, walker, alvarez, tabata (maybe)....we'd pick right back up and hopefully keep the fans in the seats with a solid product.

Yeah, I may end up writting in my blog about this later. hah.

    Re: Manny to St. Louis

I highly doubt one player would draw 10,000 more fans PER NIGHT all year. Eventually the novelty would wear off. There would be an overall increase in attendance..but I don't think it would be so huge that it would single-handely take care of such a massive contract that it would take for Manny to go to the Pirates.......the Pirates signing Manny would be very foolish. They need the draft picks right now. Signing Manny and giving up a valuable draft pick just to boost attendance and still finish sub .500 would just not be worth it. The attendance will get there when they win, not because of signing one good player. What the Pirates should do is try to find a pitcher who is worth a damn. From my count, they have one starter who can be expected to have a good year. That should be the focus.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

If you want to make something interesting and put fans in the seats at a cheaper price than Manny, how about the Pirates bring back Barry Bonds?

I think St. Louis would love Manny, so long as they make the playoffs. He'll greatly help the cause but if they don't make the playoffs of course many will say it wasn't worth it.

As far as balance...i'd say Manny hits right handers a heck of alot better than any other left handed bat St. Louis would currently put in his stead, that argument really holds no water IMHO.

its that dumb attitude that cost the mets a trip to the postseason last year. the mets EASILY could have had Manny, heck the dodgers got him for a song. But they listened to this type of attitude and watched the Dodgers and Phillies again in October.

The Mets will most certainly do the same this October unless they sign Manny. I really see him as the only FA still out there that will help their team overcome the many weaknesses they have and make the playoffs.
