Help the NY Islanders while Stimulating the Economy

Hello fellow Sport Mogul board posters

As you may, or may not know, my favorite team in all of sports is a hockey team called the New York Islanders. The Islanders are based in a town called Uniondale on Long Island, NY. We were created about 40 years ago, and have one of the only NHL dynasties. However, since we were created 40 years ago, you can imagine that we have one of the worst, crappiest, oldest arenas in the league. So you may be asking yourself what this thread is about. I can answer you with one word:

Politics

We've been trying to get a refurbished arena(called the "Lighthouse") for a couple years now. It will not only refurbish our arena, but it will also build many apartment buildings, malls, and hotels in the surrounding area. However, the town of Hemstead(which is the "lead" political town in the Uniondale area) still won't approve it. It can't be finances, as Wang(Isles owner) is WILLING to folk over all the dough. That is right. There will be no tax payer money spent on this project. All he wants is the land. It can't be that the politicians are afraid of destroying the beauty of the surrounding area, as the town of Uniondale is just a concrete jungle.

Even if you don't care about the Islanders or hockey, please help support us in light of the economy. It is a known fact that the economy is in SHAMBLES right now, and that Long Island is one of the most expensive places to live(which is why there is a steady trend of people leaving it). So if you don't want to support the Lighthouse project for the Islanders, do it to help stimulate the economy. If the Islanders move, not only will there not be more created jobs, but the PEOPLE ALREADY WORKING FOR THE ISLANDERS WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS(such as venders, security guards, etc.). That will only put a worse economic depression on Long Island and the surrounding areas. Quotes from http://www.lighthouseli.com/about/benefits

Dr. Kamer's economic analysis of the Lighthouse development forecasts incremental revenues in excess of $100 million over 30 years to Nassau County as a result of the Coliseum transformation and Sports Complex construction.

A similar analysis conducted by Stafford Sports LLC estimates that county tax receipts will total more than $185 million over twenty-five years from the transformed Coliseum alone.

According to Stafford Sports, New York State would receive $3 million in incremental sales tax revenues during the first season of operation; Stafford estimates that sales tax revenues will approximate $5 million as compared to the State's current tax receipts of nearly $1.7 million from the Coliseum operations.

In addition to the Sports Technology opportunities, many jobs will be created during the development, construction and support of the Lighthouse project.

An economic analysis of the Lighthouse project conducted by noted economist Dr. Pearl Kamer estimates that Long Island earnings could increase by $123 million and approximately 3,200 construction jobs will be created during the transformation of the Coliseum and construction of the Sports Complex alone

The Lighthouse will be the town center of Long Island - an exciting destination for families to come and experience the best professional sports, incredible entertainment events or simply a place to spend the day.

The Sports Technology Center will be the global incubator for developing the sports technology industry on Long Island.

Not only the Islanders, but this project will create other destinations for Long Island, such as a MiLB ballpark, and malls.

So you may be asking yourself. Why wouldn't they approve it? Well, there really is no real reason. But the T-of-H politicians only care about themselves, and will not approve any project like this unless it can potentially cost them their political life. So right now, they are hanging onto their only options to delay the project, such as environmental issues, and how much "noise" the project will make.

did u even read it... its not FOR the islanders its the surrounding area... the owner also is forking over all the $ so its no taxpayers cash... I dont care if it was the partiots (as a jets fan I hate them) if this wa them id still be for it

You do realize that if the Lighthouse is approved, the economy would BOOST in the Northeast part of the US, while if the Islanders move to say Kansas City or Las Vegas, the economy of the NorthEast would keep stumbling down while the midwest or southwest would get an economic boost?

Ok, cool. I did not notice it, but I will take your word that it was there. What you should do is go to the library and use each computer there to put on a signature. It is cheating, yes, but in a good cause
