    Sean Casey retires

    Sean Casey has retired.

This isn't necessarily surprising, but he DID hit .322 last season with a .381 OBP. He didn't hit a single HR in 199 AB, strangely... He could have certainly found a job with an MLB team. Hell, if I were Ned Colletti, I'd have tried to sign Casey on the cheap and trade Loney (and... Hu and a pitcher [Elbert?]?) for Peavy (without much of a dropoff, save defensively, and a MASSIVE gain in the rotation), platoon Casey at 1B with some other guys until Pujols or Fielder or Howard become available... but I digress.

I can't help but think Casey could have had a career almost like what Mark Grace had. Not quite as good, but similar. Casey was never a spectacular player, but was always solid, and was an extremely popular guy.

Nice player. He'll be missed. But he will be on the MLB network.

I project him as an above average analyst.

A lot of good luck would be needed to get Towers to trade Peavy within the division...and Loney most definitely would not be the guy needed to be given up. The Pads are set at first with Adrian Gonzalez, and have Kyle Blanks coming up through the minors. Ignoring the division thing, getting Peavy would probably require Kemp, one of McDonald/Elbert, and someone else like Hu.

Eh, Casey has a really weird career. The last 4 years, he's been pretty terrible for a first basemen, not close to Grace. Casey at his peak was better than Grace, but, Grace sustained it and Casey didn't. There's really nothing that could have happened to have kept Casey on the "Grace career path." Come 2005, he just completely lost any trace of power

I wasn't really being serious. I'm just willing to trade Loney at any time.

I'd give up Kemp and Elbert for Peavy and a prospect, and trade Loney, DeWitt and a prospect to Baltimore for Roberts and Markakis.

Or I'd trade Kemp and Loney to the Padres for Peavy and Gonzales.

The Padres shouldn't care about trading within their division. They're not going to compete anytime in the near future. That's half the point of trading Peavy...

I'm sure LA would love to make those trades as well, along with trading pierre & broxton for braun & gallardo

I think you overvalue the Dodgers and undervalue other teams. It would take much more than Kemp and Loney for Peavy and Gonzalez... just like it would way much, much more than Loney, DeWitt, and a prospect for Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis.

And the Orioles just locked up Markakis to a long term deal And according to reports today are trying to lock up Roberts.

I'm sorry, but you're crazy if you think there is even a remote possibility for any of those deals.

Then I'd make a three way trade where I'd send Adrian Gonzalez, Blake, Pierre and Kershaw to the Yankees for Teixeira and ARod.

Then I would sign Manny and subsequently trade him, along with Billingsley, Furcal, and Martin, to the Mets for Santana, Schneider and Reyes.

I'd follow this up by signing Adam Dunn to 3 years for $25 million.

Too bad, Casey was a lot of fun last year. I remember when he slid back into 2nd and missed the base...then rules himself safe. Hilarious.

I'm surprised no middle-of-the-pack AL team wanted him as a DH/1B option. Not much power, but on-base. Ah well.

LMFAO at the ESPN poll today - Is Sean Casey a Hall of Famer?

SERIOUSLY? And a quarter of the votes say "Eventually, but not first ballot."

    LOL
