I'd say yes to Alomar and Larkin without a moment's thought, and I'd like to examine Appier, Martinez, and McGriff more in depth.
    Alomar and Larkin are locks.

Edgar Martinez is close, but I'm really not sure. Such great YBY stats, but such a late start, and good but not great career totals. One of the best DHs of the time, but overshadowed by Frank Thomas. Not room for many DHs in the Hall, especially when they barely top 300 career HRs. I don't think he'll be voted in, and I don't think I'd vote him in.

Fred McGriff has a better case. He didn't have the same caliber of YBY numbers, but his totals are outstanding, and he played in the field. 14 straight seasons with an OPS+ over 100, most of them with at least 30 HRs. That's phenomenally consistent production. McGriff gets a yes from me, and I'd have him in the "clearly a HOFer but near the bottom of the list" group.

Appier is an absolute no in my book. Only one All Star appearance in his entire career, and only one Cy Young voting finish. He was never anywhere near the top of MLB starters for any time frame, save '92 and '93 where he may have been a top 10 or top 5. A career ERA+ of 121 is nice, but not Hall worthy without insane totals or considerable time spent among the best in baseball at his position.

    Everyone else is a no.

Yeah, I'm not getting why HGM is giving Appier much consideration at all...

I wouldn't be so sure about it. Just look at Alan Trammell...They SHOULD be locks.

5 top-6 finishes in ERA+, including once leading the league. I wouldn't vote for him, but, like David Cone, he's much better than I think a lot of people realize.

I'm not giving him "much consideration", he's just one guy, though, that I think deserves more consideration than he's going to get. Ventura's another guy in that category.

For next year, I'd vote for Alomar and Larkin without a second's thought. Edgar Martinez and McGriff are also guys I would very strongly consider (I'm kinda biased with McGriff, though...I always liked Fred).

Larkin and Alomar without a doubt, and maybe with Ricky going in, more focus can be placed on Raines who in my mind is a sure HOFer as well.

The only reason I would vote for him is he got the **** beat out of him by Nolan Ryan, other than that, no way.

I'm for Ventura... I was at the game where he hit his Grand Slam Single, although I was like 4 so I don't remember it well...

Another question, Who do you think will get into the Hall next year? Not who you think should get in, but who will get in?

Honestly, no idea. It's a weird year. I'd like to think that Alomar and Larkin go in, and Blyleven surges over 75%, but I don't really have the foggiest clue as to the likelihood of those things happening. It'll certainly be scary for Cooperstown if nobody gets in, which is certainly a possibility.

    Appier: won't get 5%
    Ashby: won't get 5%
    Burks: won't get 5%

    Karros: won't get 5%
    Lankford: won't get 5%
    Larkin: won't get 75%, but possibly >50%
Martinez: will get somewhere between 20-50%
McGriff: will get somewhere between 10-30%
    McLemore: won't get 5%
    Reynolds: won't get 5%
    Segui: won't get 5%

Agreed... on that above list, I would vote ONLY for Alomar and Larkin, but I can definitely see none of them getting 75% next year.
