No, home runs are not all that matters. They are part of what matters, and Adam Dunn is an excellent home run hitter. He is also excellent at getting on base. The two most important factors of offense are getting on base and hitting for power. Adam Dunn does both excellently. He is a very productive hitter.

Marlon Anderson and Juan Pierre, on the other hand, have little or no semblance of power, and are not good at getting on base. They are the opposite of "productive hitter."

Look at On Base percentage. It combines hitting for average and walking. It will show you how important walking is. Dunn has a MUCH higher OBP, which produces more runs. Peirre does not walk much, negating his scoring value.

A little OT for what we're talking about, but I wish OBP included errors. Whether you beat out a muffed grounder or you are The Shadow and have The Power To Cloud Men's Minds...you're still getting on base.

Adam Dunn is one of the last players I'd want on my team...

He's not the first, but if you have a DH opening, he's definitly worth a long hard look at.
