Rickey is definitely in a class by himself. The best leadoff hitter ever, bar-none, and probably one of the top 3-4 offensive forces ever. I'd love to hear the excuses of anyone who didn't vote for him, just to laugh at how far they had to dig.

Not unlike back when Nolan Ryan was voted in, I once saw an interview with a voter who said he didn't vote for him, said something to the effect of, "I asked myself: if I were in game 7 of the World Series, would I want Nolan Ryan to be my starter, and I couldn't say yes, so I didn't vote for him."

Whats stunning to me is that so many get so worked up over a writer not voting for Henderson. So what? Its his ballot, and he can vote the way he wants, I guess.

You know.....Yogi Berra, arguably the best catcher in history, wasn't even elected on the first ballot. Thats right...67&. Wait until next year.

23 of the HOF voters did not vote for Willie Mays. 52 did not vote for Sandy Koufax. 43 did not vote for Mickey Mantle. The list goes on and on.

Henderson? Pfffttt. So he doesn't get a few votes. Jeezus, its nothing new, and hardly worth losing any sleep over.

    Jim Rice
    Alan Trammell

    He even MENTIONS Rickey Henderson:

All around, this is a ridiculously weird ballot. His non-vote for Henderson can't be explained by a "Never vote for first-year players" personal rule, as he voted for Matt Williams. He didn't vote for Mark McGwire because of steroids...even though he voted for an admitted steroid user in Matt Williams.

The only rational explanation for leaving Henderson off is that you overlooked him and didn't see his name on the ballot. Either way, this guy's vote should be rescinded. If you're a Hall of Fame voter and you can't take the small amount of time to actually look at each player on the ballot, you shouldn't have the privilege to vote.

Saying 1 thing & doing another...sounds like metsguy's kind of voter

Yeah, it's more of who he voted for instead of Rickey. Plus it being his ballot doesn't give him the right to just vote for anyone who doesn't deserve. That would be like someone voting for

    Mario Mendoza
    Steve Jeltz
    Ken Phelps
    Steve Balboni
    Ryne Duren
    Dave Anderson
    Alvaro Espinoza
    Dwayne Murphy
    Ellis Valentine

Agreed beyond any doubt that this is completely silly...by not voting someone into the HoF, you're essentially saying that you believe they could have done something more to get in. In Rickey's case, what would that be, exactly?

Absolutely. I'd go as far as to say he *might* be a top 15 non-pitcher, and in terms of "5-tool guys," he's got to be top 5, behind guys like Willie Mays and Barry Bonds.

    Rickey 5-tool?
Only thing he wasn't great at, was defense and I think that was more of the showboat in him. Those great swipe catches he would do.

Well since it's my ballot, i will not vote for Canadians until their 5th year of they are eligible. Although the Dutch and Irish will go in automatically on the 2nd year.
