You're right, so far. It's on, for me, for the moment.
But my cynical, battle-weary consumer mentality makes me wonder: for how long?
I have no trouble seeing a day in the not-too-far-off-future (probably before spring-training) that, once the cable providers are confident the "hook is in", they'll black out the channel and begin charging for it.

The cable providers that are providing it for free have a stake in the MLB Network company.
"Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner and Cox Communications have minority ownership of the new network, with MLB retaining a controlling two-thirds share."
I have comcast and it is blackout or just not active in the Seattle/Issaquah area.
okay, I have upgraded to digital preferred....I had the digital classic....
