Manny Ramirez and the Dwindling Options

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .

Yeah, this was pretty predicatble for what he's asking for.

I agree with the commenter that said if Manny and Boras come back to the Dodgers looking to get that 2/45 offer again, the Dodgers should lower it.

...I'm thinking (hoping, I guess) that the Halos are in the mix. Stating that their out because "they are not going to dance with agent Scott Boras." is a... thin argument that their not.
It'd make sense as well, having lost out on Tex and letting Garret Anderson go, there's both space and money available for him, and voiced support for him as a player.
On the other hand, there's also this:
"I think there was speculation out there that Manny could play for the Angels," Reagins said. "I think Mike and Arte had commented on a radio station about what type of player Manny is. We all believe Manny is a good player, and we think he could play for Mike Scioscia, but we want to give our young players an opportunity, and I'll leave it at that."
That seems to be a fairly clear signal... and, in a comparatively fairly weak AL West isn't all that surprising. It's probably even the smart move, from a business perspective, since the Angels are very likely to take the division in 2009.

Before the signings they made last year, for the most part they dont sign contracts like the one Manny is requesting. I would be shocked to see the Halos get him as it is outside their spending philosophy.

As a matter of fact, I wouldnt be surprised at all to see Manny retire. The whole point of him leaving Boston is he wanted a contract of 4 years. Boston wouldnt give it to him and nobody else is going to either. Boston is having the last laugh and I would think Manny would rather retire than hear a "I told you so."

True, regarding the Angels... I did hedge with "I hope", after all.

As for Manny retiring, I guess that I wouldn't be shocked, but I would be surprised.

Manny ain't gonna retire; that's just he and Boras trying to blow smoke up someone's butt. Only problem is, no one's buying that either. If worst comes to worst Boras will go after a one-year deal somewhere in the hopes that the market will come back to him, and Manny will have 12 more months to prove himself to some big-bucks team.
