What the Red Sox have over the Yankees?
An actual team that likes playing together.

What the Rays have over the Yankees?
An actual team that likes to play together, not a bunch of overpaid free agents who may or may not actually play good in New York, considering things don't always work out in New York like they are supposed to.

Huh? The only noise I hear is the noise coming from the non-Yankee fans

lol at this whole thread. So much for trying to cut spending, huh?

It's hilarious how all the Yankee fans fail to realize, or choose to ignore, that the whole reason they haven't won a World Series since 2000 is because all they ever do lately is throw money around like it's nothing and they don't churn out their own talent like they did when they were at their peak. Aside from Cano and Wang I can't think of two players the Yankees have produced (and kept) in the past five or so years that has been anywhere close to All-Star caliber, and don't even say Melky Cabrera belongs in that discussion.

At any rate, you know there's no way the Red Sox don't make some type of move to try and match the Yankees on this one. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to put a package together for Prince Fielder, or anyone similar that may become available.

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, Yankees still aren't better than the Red Sox or Rays now, although they're probably just as good. All the teams are roughly equal in just about every facet of the game.

This is the first year in a while where you can really say that they're trying to "buy a championship." Please find me one other year where they shelled out this much money for the top free agents on the market. PLEASE. Back up these statements.

Excellent signing. I thought the Yankees needed Tex more than any other free agent, because he is an upgrade on both sides of the coin, at the plate and in the field, and a steady first basemen is something they've lacked.

Spending ridiculous amounts of money on Hunter and Matthews might be the reason why they can't sign Tex. Who knows.

Hm. Maybe I missed it, but when were the Yankees not an "actual team", and where is this evidence that they don't like playing together?

We may have finished third last year, but atleast we didn't fold like a chair for two straight years in September
At least we were still in the running in September

    Good one.

    How utterly didn't-see-that-one-coming-at-all-ish.

Oh, I figure that this move will make the Red Sox counter by trading some of their top prospects for a bat. Bye Lars and Clay.

Which, at the end of the day, makes for great baseball.

Oh well? I'd rather trade unproven talent that may never fulfill itself for a hitter like Prince who has proven himself.
