    Sammy Baugh Passes Away

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...ank&id=3776948

He really revolutionized the game. 194 Career TD Passes in a time where the running game was the main feature is extraordinary. Also played Safety and Punter. Truly one of the All Time greats, and its sad that the last of the 1963 HOF Class finally passed.

In the context of history, you can say he is one of the top 3 QB's of all time. If it wasnt for him, passing would probably not be the same as it is today.

Agree with Rage 100%. Baugh was, and is, one of the best QB's ever. Certainly in the top 10 all time.

I'd rank him and Joe Montana first and second all-time at QB--not necessarily in that order. Sometimes I think Baugh should be #1, sometimes I think it should be Montana. And there are at least 7 other guys who I think at least have an argument for it (Luckman, Graham, Unitas, Starr, Staubach, Marino, and Young).

Sammy Baugh is one of those guys where it is absolutely legitimate to describe him as a pioneer of the game. He and Luckman were the first prototypes for the downfield passing quarterback.

I really like this list. I would probably put Luckman in the second tier though, top 20, not top 10. In my top 10, in addition to Montana, Young, Marino, Unitas, Starr, Graham, Staubach, and Baugh....I would probably add Brady and Manning. Excellent list, though.

    Good list also.

    Mine would go:

    1) Montana
    2) Young
    3) Marino
    4) Baugh
    5) Elway
    6) Manning
    7) Brady
    8) Unitas
    9) Starr
    10) Graham

Sure about the first 4, pretty rough ranking afterwards.

For what it's worth, I would probably have Favre somewhere between # 15 and #20.

I agree with this, Favre hasnt done much of anything but pile up numbers. I believe he wasnt even the main reason they won the Super Bowl against New England. It was their special teams and defense.
