    Fantasy Baseball Keepers--Any opinions?

I take part in what I'd call a highly competitive fantasy baseball keeper league. We are allowed to have either 6,7, or 8 keepers this offseason, if I keep seven I forfeit my first round pick, if I keep 8 I also forfeit my pick in round 2.

There are 16 teams in the league. We start 1 each at C, 1b,2b,3b,ss and 3 in OF, along with 2 Utility spots that can be any hitter. Pitching wise we have 3 spots for starters, 2 spots for relievers, and 2 spots for any pitcher.

The scoring in the league is a little complex, BA, H, 2b, 3b, hr, rbi, runs, ops, SB, and K's for batters.

Scoring for pitchers is W, L, CG, ShO, Sv, Hd, K, ERA, WHIP, and k/bb ratio, and a staff minimum of 35 innings per week.

Here is my roster. I'm currently leaning towards keeping the players in Bold. Who would you keep and why?

    C-Russell Martin
    1b-Prince Fielder
    2b-Robinson Cano
    3b-Mike Lowell
    ss-Michael Young
    ss/BN-Troy Tulowitzki
    OF-Carlos Lee
    OF-Bobby Abreu
    OF-Curtis Granderson
    Util-Jermaine Dye
    Util-Shane Victorino

    SP-Joe Saunders
    SP-John Danks
    SP-Jair Jurrjens
    SP-Scott Baker
    SP-Paul Maholm
    SP-Ryan Dempster
    SP-Derek Lowe
    SP-Chris Volstad
    RP-Grant Balfour
    RP-Dan Wheeler
    RP-Tony Pena

Given that roster, I certainly wouldn't keep the maximum 8 players. I'd keep 2, and take the draft picks.

I also don't see many guys that I really would like to keep. Martin, Fielder, and Cano, I suppose, are givens. I'd also go with Danks on the pitching side of things. I'd wait to see where Lowe ends up before deciding to keep him (if that's possible). And I'd go with Granderson too. So that's:

    Russell Martin
    Prince Fielder
    Robinson Cano
    Curtis Granderson
    John Danks
-somebody (Derek Lowe depending on where he signs)

Just curious, why would you not keep Carlos Lee?

Also, what are your thoughts on Tulowitzki turning things back around?

Aging, bad body, injury concerns. With that lost slot, it's really a toss up. If Lowe lands in a favorable spot (good pitcher's park, preferably NL), it's him easily. If he goes to where he's likely to go (Boston or NY), than I'd let him go and keep either Lee or Tulo, who will bounce back fine, imo.

    I would keep:

    Tulowitzki
    Fielder
    Cano
    Martin
    Danks

    And take 3 draft picks

Thanks for the reply RedsoxRockies. I have to at least keep 6.

I honestly hadn't considered Danks a keeper until this thread.

Let's keep the comments coming, there is a lot of baseball knowledge here, its about time I used it to my advantage.

    Keepers:

    Russell
    Prince
    Cano
    Tulo
    Granderson
    Danks
Two of either Victorino, Lowe or Jurrjens (or just use those slots for the draft picks)

Also, see what players other teams are keeping. This will help you in determining if you want those 1st and 2nd round draft picks.

    2 questions:

When must you decide on who to keep?
Are you currently able to make trades with other teams or will you be able to before the keepers must be chosen?

Yea, Danks wasa nice little suprise after making everyone think he was a bust last year. He has been a good 'spec, just not really publicized. And with the Cubs doing so good and drawing more interest, he has been ignored by the majority. And if you need six, yea, Lowe if he goes somewhere not called Fenway, or maybe Curtis.

    To answer some questions:

I can make trades with other teams, but most of them are very tough to deal with.

I don't have to turn in my official keeper list until I believe the end of Feb.

I think my team was pretty solid. I finished 3rd overall in a 16 team league. We are possibly contracting 2 teams (who were terrible) and going with a 14 team league this season.

Aquire Jeff Neimann, Chris Davis, and Lars Anderson if you can.

    No. Don't.

The only one of those three worth giving up anything other than a last round draft pick is Davis.
