Especially one that spent a portion of his starts in the NL Central pitching against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pettitte is game-tested against the AL East and for what they were thinking of offering Sheets (2 years or so), they could re-sign Pettitte probably.

I;m thinking Andy as well because he is not for long term. you now have 3 long term guys (including Wang) and dont forget Joba. I dont see another starter fore more than 2 years.

I think they wnat to make sure they are not locked in in 203 years to deals if they dont work out

True... and hopefully by that time, Phil Hughes and/or Ian Kennedy will be ready to hold down SOME spot in the rotation.

Yeah. I don't get why he is using his resources to try to improve his team. How dare he do that! I am outraged. Sore loser! Idiot! Overrated! Moneybags!

Now I am a fan of this signing. Burnett proved that he can compete in the AL East, and has electric stuff.

    Sabathia
    Wang
    Burnett
    Chamberlain/Hughes
    Pettitte/Hughes

I am a fan of that rotation

Now hopefully we can sign a Manny Ramirez, or atleast an Adam Dunn to protect Rodriguez. In that case, we can trade Hideki Matsui for an average prospect or two

    1. Damon-LF
    2. Jeter-SS
    3. Rodriguez-3B
    4. Ramirez/Dunn-DH
    5. Swisher-1B
    6. Cano-2B
    7. Posada-C
    8. Nady-RF
    9. Cabrera/Gardner-CF

    Pretty nice lineup there

I'd also like to see us sign Kotsay as a good bench bat

It's not even like Burnett is all that good... I don't get all the hype for him

    100% irrelevant

Pettite hasn't had a good year since 2005...you know, back when he was pitching in that very same division as Sheets. Pettite isn't "game tested against the AL East." He's a decent pitcher, but FAR from the level of Sheets (when healthy). Since money is clearly no object to the Yanks...Sheets is without a doubt the way to go unless they are concerned with his durability. That's the only negative as far as Sheets goes.

Doesn't mean he won't waive it.

Even if he wouldn't waive it, I'd look to trade someone else(Nady possibly? Damon?) to make room for a power hitter. Our lineup is pretty average without another 30+ home run guy in it

I think Damon would be better to move

    Re: Yanks sign Burnett

Burnett is a better than average pitcher who has the ability to be outstanding.

I don't think he's worth $82 million, given averaging 173 innings over the last 3 years, but the Yankees and I value money differently
