    New member

    Hi everybody,

I'm a new member, european but football fan!
I would like to congratulate the developping team of FM09 for its job (already played the demo and really appreciated it).

I would also like to ask you some questions:
-i noted (i can be wrong) that fan mode is a mode where cpu is handicaped, and mogul mode is the one where the player is handicaped. What can be said about the two medium levels? Which is the one the more equal?
-I saw a unofficial update (7.6 i guess), why is this an unofficial one? What are the downloadable mods to get to have the latest version of FM09?

    Thanks for your answer,
    See you,

    Nisa

    Hey, Nisa. Welcome!

I'm not 100% sure regarding difficulties, but this is how it works in BM so it should be very similar:

As you noted, Fan and Mogul are the extremes. Coach provides a perfectly level playing field. This is a good level when you're learning the game, or if you've really saddled yourself with a poor team such as the Detroit Lions.

Experienced players will tend to play on Head Coach (or, if that's not enough, Mogul.) Head Coach gives the AI some advantages, but it's assumed you're much smarter than the AI so it should balance out.

    *******

I don't see any official patches at all. I'm not sure what version downloads when you buy it anymore.

At any rate, when Clay releases an unofficial patch it means he's reasonably sure it's not going to do anything bad, but he's looking for unintended consequences. Unless you see the bug reports subforum overflowing with complaints, the patch is pretty safe. I used it with no real problems.

The only difference is the trading AI, and finances, the actual simulatin does not change from FAN to Mogul. It is just harder to make money.

    Hey,

I downloaded the 7.050 version of the game.
@Cat: Do you use to play with patch 7.070?

About the level, i noticed that in play by play, it's very hard to win in mogul mode (of course i'm not a master!!), where i've been sacked and intercepted so many times (not choosing the right play at the right moment is directly punished); though fan mode makes me easily win games even when i'm led by more than 10 points during the last period.
Anyway, i'll probably start in coach mode, to get interest even after several seasons.
Thanks Cat for the detailed answer!

Gonna try to create my playbook!

Yea, there are actually two separate difficulty levels. The PBP mode difficulty level does make it easier or harder to win. The normal difficulty level makes it easier or more difficult to earn money and (re)sign players, and it adjusts what the AI is willing to di during trade negotiations.

    Thanks Ohms!

    That seems clear right now

I've got an other question: is there a linux version of the game?

@Cat: i have installed 7.070 and lunar theme! Very pleasant to see and everything seems to work properly. Just one strange observation: My QB: Kurt Warner is evaluated at 92 one game, and 82 the other one... is there an explanation?

Nope. Mogul games are Windows only. They both rely on the Windows API for several things. It's extremely unlikely that there will be any versions for OS's other then Windows.

    Regarding Kurt Warner, see:

    Thanks!

Shame on me... i didn't thought at searching on the forum to fix Warner problem!

Anyway, i read the concerned topic, but it's all about "past seasons stats" problem, but there is nothing about evaluation...
I don't know how the game works, but playing one game with an 82 QB and the following with a 92 one... is tactically different, isn't it?
    Anyone knows about this problem?
