And see, how do we know THE MEDIA got to him? I see him moving from the NL to the AL in his early 40's, a rise in his home run rate which is easily connected to the league switch, and excellent strikeout and walk numbers as always. Did the media make him serve up more longballs? Or was it the fact that he switched to the tougher league?

Its always been part of the equation you either earn your money or you dont. Based on Giambi's contract, he did not earn his money. Yes he was good, not like when he was with my team, but good.

He really should have done much better with the protection he had around him. I dont know though, you can say Tejada and Chavie was pretty good protection to have as well.

He had a few incidents with the media during his short tenure in New York. I guess I didn't mean to say it got to him, but his reactions in certain situations really seemed like it did.

Maybe it did, but we can't really know if or how it affected his performance.

I would have used that money to replace an aging outfield.

They'll just use other money to do that. I'm sure there's plenty more where CC's came from.

I just hope no other teams get skunked into signing similarly giddy contracts with other free agents. I especially hope the BoSox have more spine, and are able to hold the line with, say, the Tex talks, better than the NYY did with CC. Even though Theo and the Trio have shown they'll do some odd things when they fall in love with a player, they at least have demonstrated ('til now, anyway) that they do have their limits on certain things.

I'm fully convinced the poor, slap-happy Yankees would have thrown yet more cash (and whatever else it would have taken) to seduce CC (had he simply demanded it, or had some other team just kept upping the ante), long past the point where it made any sense.

The CC deal proves one thing: desperation is expensive.

Don't forget... dthe dumped close to 80 million of the payroll... this signing is not even 1/3 of what they dumped... and as far as getting younger in the OF??? what are they going to do with all the OF's they have... I guess trade them and just pay most of the $$$ (say 8 million... someone will take him for 5 million. Matsui I think you are stuck with because of the No trade clause and the Japaniese relationshp you are trying to build, may suffer. Adding cameron does , to ME, not help you THAT much unless you can dump one of your OF contracts. the 1 guy out of Matsui, Damon, and Abreu I woul dhave wanted lol was Abreu.

Jeter THANK heavens will be off the books (at 20+ million anyway) after 2010

2009 they will have about 26-26 coming off the books to help replace the OF (Damon and Matsui) If Andruw Jones can lose some weight and get his game back in order this year... watch him be in pinstripes. Alos dont forget... Next year... MATT HOLLIDAY will be a f/a... I can see him in pinstripes for sure

It would be nice if we can keep him, but of course we wont.

The only pinstripes Jones would be wearing is if he robbed a piggly wiggly.

And if the Yankees moved to Denver, then Holliday would be a great pick-up. I hope desperately the Yankees sign those guys.
