But why not just state he make 2.2M this year and 1/2m the next too

And if they dont affect the Lux Tax whats to keep a team from signing a player to a 1 year deal for the league min and an 10m dollar singing bonus ..

not saying anyone should know, but it just seems an odd form of semantics.

Signing bonuses in every leageu are paid in full as soon as the contract is signed. Works the same in the NFL...the player is immediately handed a cheque for the full amount of the bonus. The TEAM is allowed to pro-rate it over the length of the contract to spread out the cap hit, but the player gets it all in one lump payment.
