Given that the heads of College Football will say that this is an unusual circumstance, how should College Football go about preventing a situation like this happening again?
We have 4 teams in FBS, Div 1-A schools, still undefeated. Granted that could change Friday and Saturday. I believe Alabama has a better chance to lose than Ball State does. If both teams lose we still have 2 teams undefeated in FBS, and neither will be considered for the National Championship.
Games of note BCS ranking in ()
(1) Alabama Vs (4) Florida
(2) Oklahoma Vs (20) Missouri
(12) Ball St Vs UBuffalo
(5) USC Vs UCLA
I know if #1, #2, and #5 all lose that Texas #3 and Florida #4 will be in the NC game. Utah will probably be #3 TTU probably #4. I also know that scenario probably will not happen.
I still think the NCAA should have a playoff for Div1a football. 16 teams like 1aa is reasonable. 32 teams to make sure none were missed from the season would be good too. Whether you have a 16 or 32 team playoff, they could shorten the season back to 11 games. Some teams already play 14 games including bowl, so saying that it would be too many games is flawed. Use the BCS system to seed the teams. Play all games the bowl sites.
It could work, probably would never happen though.
