    BCS Standings

Given that the heads of College Football will say that this is an unusual circumstance, how should College Football go about preventing a situation like this happening again?

We have 4 teams in FBS, Div 1-A schools, still undefeated. Granted that could change Friday and Saturday. I believe Alabama has a better chance to lose than Ball State does. If both teams lose we still have 2 teams undefeated in FBS, and neither will be considered for the National Championship.

Games of note BCS ranking in ()

    (1) Alabama Vs (4) Florida
    (2) Oklahoma Vs (20) Missouri
    (12) Ball St Vs UBuffalo
    (5) USC Vs UCLA

I know if #1, #2, and #5 all lose that Texas #3 and Florida #4 will be in the NC game. Utah will probably be #3 TTU probably #4. I also know that scenario probably will not happen.

I still think the NCAA should have a playoff for Div1a football. 16 teams like 1aa is reasonable. 32 teams to make sure none were missed from the season would be good too. Whether you have a 16 or 32 team playoff, they could shorten the season back to 11 games. Some teams already play 14 games including bowl, so saying that it would be too many games is flawed. Use the BCS system to seed the teams. Play all games the bowl sites.

It could work, probably would never happen though.

Make it the top 8 because there is really only controversy between the top few and the top 8 would allow teams, like Utah, Ball St., Boise St., to contend for the national title and prove their worth.

Use the 4 BCS bowls along with a few other major ones as the game sites and the BCS championship bowl as the championship site obviously. This would silence all critics.

Dan Wetzel is on to something....

    Wetzel's Playoff Plan

I disagree with making the bowls the site. Screw the bowl system entirely. It was something needed in 1958...not in 2008. The nostalgia of the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl is ruined by the so called nostalgia of the PapaJohns.com bowl. The bowl system has become a business...not a sport.

Home field advantage until the semi-finals then stick neutral sites into it. Part of college football that is huge are the students, the stadiums, the atmosphere. Why does college football ruin that with bowl games 2,000 miles away?

Make USC play in the snow in Michigan or Ohio.

Make Penn State play in the rains of Florida or the winds of Oklahoma. Let's get home field advantage back into play in college football.

Utah and Boise St. have already proven they can contend with BCS Bowl wins the last few years over major programs. Hawaii on the other hand got it handed to them, and I feel Ball St. would end up the same way.

    Re: BCS Standings

Small schools upset teams all the time. Sure, Hawaii got killed by the HOTTEST team in the country. Boise wasn't supposed to win. Utah...maybe.

The fact of the matter is..much as in college basketball eventually a small school makes a run. Ball St. has become a story. No one is going to watch this story walk all over some punk ass Big Ten fifth place team in the Motor City Bowl. But you know when they would watch Ball St? When they played a playoff game against USC.

If they get killed...they get killed. We saw that USC was the better team. But imagine the stories if they won? March Madness is March Madness because these teams aren't supposed to win.

January Madness could come out of this...

Yeah I know, I want a fairer system - if that is word - and I would love to see Ball St. play a big time contender. They have a great QB who has pro potential and putting him in the spotlight to see what he can do would be incredible. That article needs to be spread around.

I glanced at Wetzel's plan. It looks good.

Now I only suggested using the bowl sites because aren't they already committed to using them?

I believe 16 teams would work great, that's what div 1-aa uses. I would prefer 16, I threw 32 in there because we know every year teams would whine by saying they were good enough to be in the 16.

    Re: BCS Standings

Why is everyone always unhappy with any system. the BCS isn't great, sure you can have a playoff and crown a tourney champion, but even that won't always give you the best team. Why does everyone HAVE to have a champion for a amateur sport?

Sure Ball St could play USC and win, but they are not a better team, USC would win that game by 20 points 9 out 10 times. And if there is some miracle scenario people would be happy with a 10-4 Troy team being crowned the best team in CFB??

People complain about the Bowl System, but you know what the problem is ... theres too many bowls, they even had to change the rules a few years ago because there wern't enough bowl Eligible teams (the old rule said you have to have a winning record, now it just not a losing one)

That sounds a bit homerish .. Joe Pa already said he was planning on being back ... But really this game looks likes a not even close 38-10 game.

You have some high scoring affairs there. AND you have Florida scoring 54 on Bama YEAH RIGHT. I think Bama will beat Florida as their defense will be too much for Tebow and Florida.

    Re: BCS Standings

I am an Alabama fan. I have no problem with anyone saying that Florida is the favorite on Saturday....but I am simply stunned with the complete lack of respect they have gotten. It seems that everyone just thinks that Florida, OU, Texas, USC and others can simply score on Bama at will and rout them. This thread seems to be just another example. I don't know what Alabama did to make everyone think they aren't on Florida's level......I think it's a matter of people thinking more points = better team.

When Alabama is running the ball, controlling the clock, and dominating the line of scrimmage on Saturday..we'll see what happens. Florida might be the favorite..but there's no way Florida is scoring that many on Bama...yeah, Florida is fast...but oh yeah, so is Alabama's D and their offense holds the ball for so long.....we'll see what happens when Florida gets punched in the mouth. Florida may win...they are definitely as good as advertised...but the lack of respect all season for Bama is just disgusting. Unlike all the others, they've beaten everyone, won close games on the road, dominated ranked teams away from home......not sure what else they possibly could've done this season. Just because their offense is designed to slowly dominate and score and control the ball rather than quickly scoring doesn't make them inferior. They say that defense wins championships for a reason..it's not just a phrase.
