If AJ Burnett had played those 4 seasons, he would've been on the DL four times in that span!

Maine has only had 2 full seasons and has pitched in 5 different seasons. Burnett's pitched in 10 different seasons.

A.J. Burnett is the better pitcher. It's not arguable. The thing that is arguable is which pitcher you'd rather have on your team if you were building for the future.

Sure. You can have the opinion that Rey Ordonez is a better hitter than Fred McGriff. It doesn't make you right, though.

How is John Maine a better pitcher than A.J. Burnett? I've already laid out why you're wrong - Burnett prevents runs better, strikes out more batters, walks less batters, and gives up less home runs.

He pitched 464.7 innings in the majors. Most aces can get near that number in two healthy seasons

Not to mention that Burnett pitched more innings in the past three years than Maine pitched in his career. So I don't know what you are trying to get with that "Burnett was on DL more than Maine" agruement. So what? Fact is, Burnett pitched more than Maine in the past few years

John Maine is less of an injury risk, and is younger. He also makes less money then Burnett, so he'll have motivation to play even better to earn a higher salary.

If Maine was an Astro or Mariner, or on any other team than the Mets, and if Burnett wasn't a Yankee, would you still have the same opinion?

Innings pitched by both pitchers in the past 3 years

    Burnett: 522 1/3 innings
    Maine: 421 innings

What is that "DL" arguement supposed to prove? Burnett has BEEN on the field more than Maine in the past 3 seasons.

Well, I'll just ignore that last part, since, well, there's no evidence that that happens. At all.

And even then, you answered why the question of which pitcher you'd rather have if you were building a team for the future is arguable. You did not tell me how John Maine is a better PITCHER than A.J. Burnett.

Well I don't believe that, but there is no way to prove that, so I will just leave it at "whatever you say"

you guys know how much an injury threat Burnett is right? I was actually happy when the Yankees signed Burnett. I doubt he pitches all those three season.

That's irrelevant to the question of who is a better pitcher.

Burnett has been better, although neither one is anything special. Maine is 4½ years younger, and might very well be better in 2009, and from this point on, however.
