Both are overrated, but Burnett has the nastier stuff so I'll go with him.

John Maine has pitched 464 innings in his career and has been basically the definition of average - 102 ERA+. Burnett has thrown 1,376 innings, and has a 111 ERA+. Beyond that, Burnett has way better peripherals - 8.36 K/9, 3.71 BB/9, 0.8 HR/9. Maine has a 7.71 K/9, 3.91 BB/9, and 1.22 HR/9. Add in that Burnett has succeeded in both a pitcher's park in the NL East and a hitter's park in the tough AL East, and Maine has only done is work in an NL East pitcher's park...except for a couple starts with the Orioles where he got bombed...

Yeah. It's not close, and when out of 35 people, you're one of the 3 in the minority on this type of issue, it's you who should re-examine what you know about baseball, Mr. Lou Gehrig is just the 5th best First Basemen Ever.

John Maine is more of a sure thing though. AJ Burnett's been on the DL 9 times, John Maine was never on the DL to my knowledge.

Fact: A.J. Burnett pitched more innings in his last three seasons than John Maine has pitched in his ENTIRE career

Maybe a reason why Maine has never been on the DL is because he barely has had a career in the majors

Maybe you weren't following the Mets this year, but John Maine went on the disabled list in the beginning of August, came back and made 3 starts, and then went back on the disabled list for the rest of September (well, he technically was activated on Sept. 24th but didn't pitch because of "fear of injury").

4 seasons is "barely a career in the majors" ??

If AJ Burnett had played those 4 seasons, he would've been on the DL four times in that span!

Well that's basically one DL stint, because it was probably due to the same injury. So 1 DL stint in 4 yrs is better then 9 in 8 yrs
