Because that's the market price for him. It doesn't make them a-holes. If they want Burnett, they're going to have to spend.

Going after Peavy, Burnett, and then a Furcal/Renteria would tie up a huge chunk of payroll. Going after just Burnett, sticking with that rotation, and getting an outfield bat, would be cheaper and produce a similar, if not better, team.

    hmmm... 2010 would be
Burnett, Tim Hudson, Javier Vazquez, Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson.

interesting if the 2 front guys end up there and are decent...

I personally, being a White Sox fan, love this deal for the Sox.

Vazquez was stale and didn't show improvement during his tenure with the south side so I'm not sad he's gone. They added prospects to a somewhat weak farm system in what appears to be a win-win for both sides.

you will be happy with the cather, tahts for sure. I think he would have beena good replacement on the braves as out 1B if he could have kept the power up in AA or AAA next year

They're saying Hanson could be in Atlanta by the middle of '09.

I'm sad Flowers is gone because I've met the guy and he's a good guy and I really wanted to see him in Atlanta. His hitting coach is my hitting coach.

AJ Burnett is a great pitcher. He is a great pitcher, when healthy, and to me, when he's healthy he's easily the Top 20-30 pitchers in baseball. But the thing is, he really is never healthy. Your taking a risk here, if the Braves do sign Burnett, your looking at spending 15+ mil per year at a guy who can be on the bench most of the year. But if he's healthy, your getting a great pitcher. Sad thing is, 15 million a year is average, for an average pitcher, Silva got 11-12 mil per year, and he had a career ERA of 4.3+.

I hate when 'they' say stuff like this. 'They' are wrong more than the weatherman.

Dead on in your description of Burnett. I find it more than a little coincidental that the year he could opt out of his contract and become a free agent again is the one year he toughed out all the starts when his elbow felt tight.

Reports say that the Braves offer to Burnett was around 4 years/$60 mil, which hardly seems like a bad deal. Frank Wren said that they did not offer 5 years.

unfortunatly I forget sometimes that 10-12 million gets you verry little nowadays. you are right... its not like we were going to get him far below market value.

I was really hoping to see him at 1B in 2-3 years ESPECIALY after his showing in the AFL this year. I was hoping to have that big power bat at 1B we have not had since Klesko. I mean we had a few guys but never for very long. I wish we could have Signed Texeria when he was offered a 5-6 year deal from the braves... MAN I hate Boras... I think he would have signed

Again, blame Teixeira if you feel that strongly about him choosing not to re-sign and wanting to test the market (every player's right). Boras is an advisor and he doesn't make the signing decisions for the players, believe it or not.

And Teixeira chose Boras to be an advisor, and everyone and their grandmother knows that the one thing Boras does best is get his clients the most money possible, so if a player hires Boras, chances are, they're looking for big bucks.

Re: Braves giving up to much?

Exactly... and again, it's hard for some fans to deal with, especially after they become attached to a player, but it's business. I'm sure Teixeira enjoyed his time with the Braves and wouldn't have objected to re-signing there, but most players want to see their options on the open market before making that decision. Nothing wrong with that... in fact it makes the most sense for them to do it. The Braves KNEW THIS before they acquired Teixeira from Texas... it's not like they had an agreement that he would re-sign with them. We would want to consider all of OUR options too instead of jumping at the first opportunity... although that would probably be limited to considering every option for a cellular company instead of choosing the first one to pop up.
