Top 5 Receivers in the NFL today?

I'm curious what people think on this.

There is a clear changing of the guard at the WR position going on right now, as players like Randy Moss, T.O., and Torry Holt exit their prime and enter the dog days of their career. And that leaves open the question I pose to you here.

Being only a mainstream fan, I don't have a great idea of who the candidates are, but I'll still attempt to put together a decent list. In no particular order:

    Roddy White
    Calvin Johnson
    Greg Jennings
    Brandon Marshall
    Larry Fitzgerald

Also in the conversation I would have Andre Johnson, Anquan Bolden, and Steve Smith. Braylon Edwards looked like he was ready to become an elite receiver after the numbers he put up last season, but he's been very disappointing this season, the upside is still there though.

White, Johnson, Marshall and Greg Jennings are all are on the cusp of greatness, none have arrived quite yet, but that may not be the case in a year.

Re: Top 5 Receivers in the NFL today?

I think White is a legitimately great receiver at this point. He put up 1200+ yards on 83 catches with 6 touchdowns last season, and if he keeps it up this season he'll shatter those numbers. I'm slightly biased in this case, being a Falcons fan, but I don't think it's too early to call him great.

Jennings may be a bit more of a stretch than White, but he too has put up phenomenal numbers between this season and last season. 920 yards on 53 catches with a phenomenal 12 TD's last season, and 966 yards on 56 catches and 6 TD's so far this season.

Johnson probably is premature, this being only his second season in the NFL.

Marshall, too, is ready to be called great. 102 catches and 1300+ yards with 7 TD's last season. 67 catches and 887 yards with 4 TD's this season, and after missing a game or two to start the season.

All the guys you listed off could certainly be considered top 5 wide receivers too, though.

Wow, this is going to be rather tough...

Anquan Boldin - good luck preventing him from catching it...and then from running you over after the catch.
Larry Fitzgerald - Meet Anquan 2.
Randy Moss - Still frighteningly talented, and damn near impossible to cover deep.
Reggie Wayne - Does everything well.
Steve Smith - Just as effective on hitch passes as long bombs...another 'do everything' guy and he might fight harder for the ball than anyone else in the league.

Really close would be Brandon Marshall, Greg Jennings, TJ Houshmanzadeh, Terrell Owens and Andre Johnson. Calvin Johnson and Roddy White are getting close to the conversation, too. It's a really deep position right now, though, that's for sure.

Let's expand it to top 10, since top 5 seems a bit too narrow.

Well, here's my top 10, well I don't watch every single game, so I haven't watched too much of each but here we go, in no order:

    1. Larry Fitzgerald
    2. Anquan Boldin
    3. Calvin Johnson
    4. Reggie Wayne
    5. Randy Moss
    6. Brandon Marshall
    7. Steve Smith
    8. T.O
    9. Andre Johnson
    10. Roddy White

Jennings is very good as well, Welker is awesome too, and some honorable mention to Santana Moss & Lee Evans

I think this one is just WR, but we could do a bunch of different positions if people wanted to.

Actually, this has reminded me that I need to make my Pro Bowl votes in the next couple of weeks.

Just WR. TE is a different skill set.

Whatever works. I was just curious as to people's opinions on this particular position since, as I mentioned, the league is going through a bit of a transition period at the position.

Top 10 IMO in no particular order:
    Fitzgerald
    Boldin
    Moss
    White
TJ Houzmanzadeh (SP? The closest thing in my spell checker was househusband)
    Andre Johnson
    Wayne
    Steve Smith
    Welker
    Bobby Engram

The first 'z' should be an '-sh', but otherwise I think it's correct.
