The deal is also pending completion of physical exams.

it just clicked why... they will give up a few guys with a year or 2 experience... and trade him for a ton of prospects mid season OR keep him until the end and get a bunch or extra draft picks

I think it'll take alot more than Holliday to make them competitive with the Angels. Just my opinion however.

I agree. I'm wondering if this deal is part of some larger strategy to actually be competitive, or if it's just an attempt to NOT suck and maybe luck their way into the wild card.

Wasn't Oakland just 2-3 games behind Anaheim when they threw in the towel and traded away half their starters last year? Or am I mis-remembering?

I know Oakland's lost Blanton and the other two starters - but the A's lose K-Rod and Texeira, or at least one of them...possible more, like Garrett.

Although...if Oakland loses Greg Smith for this deal, I don't even know what starters they have left...okay, so maybe it doesn't mean Oakland is up there with the Angels, exactly; just an odd move, unless TNP's investment-for-July-deadline theory is true.
