Forgiving Buckner? - The Boston Red Sox, 1987 and beyond

Well me myself ran a Pirates' dynasty, you may of read it, not sure but anyways I played with Alou, never heard of Gideon. Alou turns into a superstar, was really nice. I would've tried to get Wake though, he projected at my second starter or something like that. Sucks to give up your top prospect, but losing Buckner must be a load of your back.

Yeah, that's exactly the way I looked at it. Thrift wanted $1,000,000.00 Cash to give up Wakefield, which I was not prepared to do. At least, not right now. As you said, giving up Buckner to get Alou makes it much easier to give up Houser, plus, Houser is a center fielder, which is blocked by Ellis Burks.

In the season opener, the Boston Red Sox handed the ball to ace Roger Clemens. Clemens pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 6 hits, 4 walks and 3 earned runs, striking out 5. The offense was anchored by Dwight Evans, who went 3-5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs, including the walk-off 2-run shot into the nets. Wade Boggs also homered in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In game two, the Red Sox sent lefty Bruce Hurst to the mound. Hurst pitched well, going 7.0 innings, in which he allowed just 3 runs, 1 earned, however 9 hits and 3 walks haunted him throughout. Hurst also recorded 5 strikeouts. Luckily, the offense has continued to pick up the slack: Dwight Evans went 3-4 with an RBI, and both Mike Greenwell and Ellis Burks were 1-4 with solo home runs. The difference? Burks' ended the game in the 11th.

Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd failed to pitch well in game 3 of the opening series. Boyd allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in just 5.0 innings, earning the loss. The bullpen did not pitch very well, either, as newly-acquired reliever Brett Gideon allowed 5 hits and 4 runs, throwing for only 2.0 innings. The only bright spot in the pitching staff tonight was Ken Ryan, who pitched a perfect ninth inning on just 13 pitches. On the offensive side, third baseman Wade Boggs went 3-4 with a solo home run.
