Colvin's not a very good prospect.
    Prospect Rankings*
2007 - 4th ranked organizational prospect for Chicago Cubs
    2008 - 75th ranked Major League prospect
2008 - 3rd ranked organizational prospect for Chicago Cubs

His status took a hit after his poor performance in AA this year. Also, he's probably a top 5/10 prospect in the Cubs system, but the Cubs don't have a deep system (for 2008, BA ranked their system 20th).

I am hearing that the Braves and Cardinals are more likely to make a trade that will work....likely a three way trade....mlb.com

More people keep claiming Cubs the front runner....

    This is from MLBtraderumors.com

According to Yahoo's Jeff Passan, the Cubs have moved in front of the Braves in the battle for Jake Peavy. Passan says the Padres want Jeff Samardzija (who has a limited no-trade clause), and the Cubs could also include players such as Felix Pie, Sean Marshall, Ronny Cedeno, Kevin Hart, and Donald Veal. The Padres would prefer a deal with Atlanta, but can't pry Tommy Hanson loose. The Braves are willing to trade Yunel Escobar, Charlie Morton, and Jordan Schafer.

Meanwhile, Tom Krasovic at the San Diego Union-Tribune says Peavy and Barry Axelrod are concerned about the Braves' shortstop situation if they are to include the defensively-talented Escobar. Perhaps the Braves could sway them by outlining some contingency plans at the position.

we would sign furcal or mayve counsel as a stop gap for a year since we have a guy supposedly a year away... maybe rentaria for a year or so.

i would do it if its hanson and a minor league OF... thats IT... but if they would take 2 for 1 deal... i think wren would be nuts to not jump on it. Hanson has done NOTHING at the major legue level... are we saving him to be another phil hughes? Hughs was suppsed to be a STUD... what has he done? I dont want him involved with a 4 or 5 for 1 deal because he IS our top prospect so its not like he is a bag of balls but lets not make him out to be the next nolan ryan as Wood was labeled

Furcal and Renteria wouldn't accept a one year deal. Counsell is about finished.

I only meant counsell as a 1 year. renteria will take 2 MAYBE 3 and I can see furcall asking for 4. Id take a chance on 3 but im just afraid he would ask for 40+ (for 3) and thats kind of steep. I cant see the braves going that route. BUT with chipper winding down and if we can get a starter for 15 mill average the next 4 years I think we might be able to take the chance... I want a FRONT loaded contract tho. say 4 years 50 million
14,13,12,11. Do you think someoen would take that? maybe a little more like 14,13,13,10. This way if he is no good int he last year its not a KILLER and we may be able to trade him worse case scenario

rentaria i think we could get 2 years 16-18 mill
