    Is this plausible?

Red Sox: "Tell you what Boras...we'll offer Texieira 5/125mill if you can get Varitek to take a 2/10mill deal with a one year option."

    yes and no ..

Theoretically it shouldn't be, Boras Should be negotiating in good faith for each player independently.

But ... Tex will in all likelyhood get more than 125M anyways ... he may get less than 25M per year, but odds are it will be a contarct in the area of 200m.

To get Tex to sign for only 125 they would have to offer Varitek MORE than he is worth ...

Boras: "Sure, here's that Tex paperwork...just sign this first." ::evil laugh::

If the league finds out about anything like that occurring, the least that would occur is Scott Boras loosing his ability to represent players.

Why the hate? Blame the players for choosing Scott Boras to represent them. They're obviously choosing him for a reason.

    Re: Is this plausible?

it's not plausible and I don't se Boras operating that way. As much as I dislike him, his responsibility is to maximize return for all his players individually. I very much doubt he takes a cut-rate deal for one guy just to get another signed. And BTW 5/125 won't even get it done for Tex I don't think, let alone 2/10 for Varitek.

Umm...I'm pretty sure Boras' responsibility is to himself and making as much money for himself as he can. See the Manny Ramirez incident as an example.

I wouldn't put it past him (nor any other agent) to make deals that increase his overall pay check

    Re: Is this plausible?

Manny will end up getting more money out of his new deal than he would have his old one, so I wouldn't try to use that example against Boras.
