Las Vegas odds have Tampa winning the series, and the odds are climbing. The Rays are nearly a 3/2 favorite now (Tampa -145).

-145 is almost enough to entice me to bet. I'd probably want -160 or so, though.

philles... have a shot... if Cole pitches 1-4-7. then i give them a shot... but they have to find a way to win 1 of the other 3 games...

I fet this was a crutial game for Tampa. they certainly didnt blow the series... i mean Hamel sis just plain NASTY. I DO have to admit I like him... but he is the only on on the team I like. I cant stand Howard or Rollins, tho Moyer is kinda cool 150 and still pitching with his 75 MPH Fastball... if you get it done who cares how hard you throw

I disagree. The Phillies could win the series without Hamel even pitching again. Moyer, Blanton, Myers, are all capable of beating any major league team on any given day. Its true that Hamel is currently pitching well, but some act like he's superman or something. He was 14-10 this year. The Phils went 19-14 in games he started. He is their best starter, no doubt. But Philadelphis only needs what any team needs to win a short series...that being good pitching and timely hitting.

I still think the Rays win the series, as they are clearly the better team.

Sure, they COULD, but it'd be incredibly unlikely.

Sure. They're also all capable of beig beaten up by any major league team on any given day, particularly Moyer and Blanton, particularly against an AL team.

Come on, you're above using wins and losses to evaluate pitchers.

He is their best starter, no doubt.
By a very wide margin. As I said in another thread, Hamels is the best starter in the series, but the next three are each Rays - Kazmir, Shields, and Garza. All 3 of them are better than any non-Hamels pitcher on the Phillies, and Sonnanstine is on the same level as Moyer and Blanton.

But Philadelphis only needs what any team needs to win a short series...that being good pitching and timely hitting.
    Of course.

    Re: The Hunt For...

I am not above using wins and losses. I noted his teams record as well as his own, and thats quite relevant. Teams win short series, even in the postseason without their best pitcher pitching well. Going purely from memory, the Angels won the WS in 2002, despite the fact that Washburn, their ace (and about as good then as Hamel is now) getting beaten in both his starts, and pitching poorly. I dont think the Angels even had a #2 guy as good as Moyer is for the Phils.

There is a strong tendency to overrate particular pitchers in the postseason (just like the media did Lester 2 weeks ago). Thats my point.
