It's no different than any other type of contractual relationship. Just because it is for more money. I've done contract work myself. Sometimes for bigger amounts, sometimes for small amounts like $10 an hour or (i think a few times) for $2.50. Whatever loyalty I have should be my decision.

Your employer doesn't own you just because they support you financially.
If you do contract work for an employer, and get hurt doing something else, then the first thing that will happen is that your employer will stop paying you. And that is what the baseball players are afraid of - if they get hurt at the WBC they won't get paid. I haven't yet heard an owner say that a player couldn't play - Vernon Wells was just reported to be unable to play for the US because he couldn't get insurance due to spending too much time on the DL last year. This is an issue about whether owners are liable for the contract if a player gets hurt - it isn't a moral issue.

Members are invited to join us of the "Dynasty" forum, in selecting our own " U.S.A. Team" to take part in a virtual BM "WBC" tournament.

Uhhhh.....you ever hear of someone named Steinbrenner?

No one is criticizing a player that doesn't want to go, that's their business. But owners ***** constantly about players going to the WBC afraid that they're going to get hurt. And while some players go anyway, I'll bet that many of them don't go because the owner tells them they can't. Which is total BS, considering the league office is pushing the WBC and needs the participation of MLB players to make this work. The contract work analogy fails when you consider that the WBC is official MLB business.

    Rosters announced today, officially.

The Dominican Republic's infield is sick. There's gonna be some damn good players left on the bench. A-Rod and Adrian Beltre at 3B. David Ortiz at 1B. Hanley Ramires, Jose Reyes and Miguel Tejeda at SS. Robinson Cano at 2B. Willie Aybar in there as well.

Without looking at the rest of the rosters...I can't imagine an infield that good on any other roster.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

I have to say I'm most excited to see what Pedro can do. I really hope he has at least one strong outing.

How about David Wright, Jose Reyes, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Derek Jeter, Chipper Jones, and Mark DeRosa? Not quite as good because ARod and Hanley are such studs... but pretty damn close.

Team USA also has one hell of a bullpen... one of the best, if not the best, I've ever seen assembled for one team. I haven't gone over the rosters too much, but USA looks to be the best team out there.

Reyes isn't on the U.S. squad. He's on the Dominican squad I talked about above.

I think the Dominican club clearly has the better infield...it's simply loaded and much deeper. U.S. might have the better overall team though...might.

Oops... typed the wrong name. I meant Jimmy Rollins. Used to thinking of Wright and Reyes together on the left side.

    Re: Wbc

An infield of Youk, Pedroia/DeRosa, Rollins/Jeter, and Wright/Chipper Jones is pretty damn good.

but I'd say the Dominican has the best infield...USA has the best bullpen staff.

Now, as long as they play like it...unlike 2006...
