But seriously, metsguy, for someone who likes to claim that they hate the WBC, don't care about it, etc. you're sure following it intensely and getting emotionally vested in it. Look at me, for example. I DON"T care about the WBC...hence, I've barely watched it, and don't give a rat's ass who wins.
Huh? I thought you liked the WBC?

I don't believe I've ever said that. I really don't care about it one way or the other.

not like the game matters; I bet that both teams will sub their whole team soon to rest their starters.

I bet Davey Johnson would do that, to get them time.

Who do you think will get the next start for the USA? Jake Peavy hasn't really been all that great although I believe he's next on the list and if you use Roy Oswalt and you win, do you want to give the ball to Peavy in the finals? I think it will be an interesting decision.

I would use Oswalt, the situation it would be another elimination game, and they need to win i first before they can think ahead. Peavy's struggles are likely just a short little fluke however, so i dont have any worries about him.

Throw in the fact that major league teams are expecting their "loaners" to get their reps in and there's the potential for a hornet's nest brewing. Frankly, I wouldn't want to manage a team that has a lot of MLBers without an Excedrin I.V. drip. Talk about being pulled in all kinds of directions. Sheesh! I still want the tournament to succeed though. I love watching the subtle and not so subtle differences in approach to the game.

It probably is a short fluke, but this isn't a season we're talking about, it's a short tournament. Just like in the playoffs if you're in a rough skid it's something you should think about. He's obviously going to pitch one of the two games but I'm not sure which. Do you take the chances he gets you through the semis and in to the finals or do you put him out in your most important game?

I put him in the most important because you may not make it there at all, you need to win the game before it too.

    Re: Wbc

You guys mean from here on (after tonight) it's ONE AND DONE???

Wow, so the final four won't be like the other brackets.

OK, makes sense. Don't know why I was thinking if they got to the next round they could lose one more again.

Wow. Peavy/Oswalt IS a tough decision.

I think I would start Peavy, only because I still think the best lineup of those left will be Venezuela, and I know we won't play them first, so I would start Peavy first, and hopefully that's a good enough (plus bullpen help if needed) plan to get to the finals and have Oswalt left to likely face that Venezuelan lineup.
