How does playing in the WBC prevent him from being ready for Opening Day?
How does playing in the WBC prevent him from being ready for Opening Day?
the WBC is more intense than ST anyways; isn't that why everyone gets so riled up over the fact that they're in the WBC? Also, the season starts later than usual because of the WBC so it isn't like they won't have time to meet up with coaches and what not for a week or 2 to get ready for the season.
He's been playing extremely competitive baseball and in an extremely competitive atmosphere for this tournament instead. How is it that playing in pretend games is better than playing in (perhaps not to you or metsguy, but to him and everyone who is involved) extremely meaningful ones? I just don't get it. It's not like he's wasted away on the bench. He's been part of one of the most awesome Catching trios ever assembled. Think he's not soaking up all he can from Pudge?...Think again. Vernon Wells had one of his best seasons ever after playing in the Classic in 2006. Team bonding is overrated and so is the injury excuse. Injuries can happen anywhere. Just ask Aaron Boone.

1) Hey Vernon Wells- Brad Lidge and Chris Reitsma said hi.
2) These games aren't extremely meaningful. Don't act like they are, they're not and you know it. I'd rather have someone get hurt in a non-meaningful game with the team they are under contract for then have them get hurt playing for someone else.
3) These players are being overworked by their country teams... Oliver Perez was left in to throw 85 pitches WTF? If he got hurt because of that, I'd be pissed off!
]
Which just goes to show that there is no correlation between someone playing in the WBC and how they play the following season.
They are more meaningful than spring training games.2) These games aren't extremely meaningful. Don't act like they are, they're not and you know it. I'd rather have someone get hurt in a non-meaningful game with the team they are under contract for then have them get hurt playing for someone else.
Oh no! 85 pitches! The terror!3) These players are being overworked by their country teams... Oliver Perez was left in to throw 85 pitches WTF? If he got hurt because of that, I'd be pissed off!
Oh YEAH! According to you last month, you'd be HAPPY if Oliver Perez got hurt, and that the Mets would have a better chance of making the playoffs if Perez missed the season. In fact, I'm pretty sure your exact words were "I hope he gets hurt the first game he pitches."
2 players does not make a correlation.
You really need to stop doing that.
OH COME ON. He normally doesn't do that because managers use their closers in order to rack up saves, not to optimize their chances of winning. Over 2003-2004, Francisco Rodriguez averaged over an inning per appearance. Did he somehow become much weaker?Also, I've heard K-Rod has gotten 2 saves over an inning... he normally doesn't do that... that's too risky...
Btw, look, I can play the Small Sample game too;
Vernon Wells, .783 OPS in 2005, .899 OPS in 2006.
Chan Ho Park, 5.74 ERA in 2005, 4.81 ERA in 2006.
Albert Pujols, 1.039 OPS in 2005, 1.102 OPS in 2006.
Johan Santana, 2.87 ERA in 2005, 2.77 ERA in 2006
The Tigers need Venezuela to lose now. The entire outfield is playing in the WBC; Verlander and Bonderman are going to forget how their starting outfield likes to field fly balls.
Illini.
Yeah I need a Winn-Dixie grocery bag full of money right next to the VIP section...
mets your just blatantly trolling.
