Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .
They were both to blame... why SHOULD they pick up his options until near the end of the year... if he ahd gotten hurt in september and was out for 1/2 next season... they would look like morons
and the sox were at fault for helping MAKE him what he became... an airhead

The Red Sox didnt make Ramirez an "airhead", if thats what he is. They did spoil him and let him get away with baseball-murder. Just like any other team would have done with a hitter of his caliber.
This isnt a new story. I read it a while back, and there's a lot I agree with, and a lot I disagree with. Boras deserves his share of blame/credit for the fiasco, but Ramirez is a grown man, and is not a complete idiot either.
This was discussed at length a couple of weeks ago.

I don't get how Boras deserves any blame. Manny knew what was going on when he hired Boras - and everyone knew that Boras doesn't get paid unless Manny gets out of his contract. So blame Manny, or blame the Red Sox but Boras was doing his job. And if Manny gets a four or five-year contract this winter worth $20million/year - then he has done his job well.
