Since you are from New Jersey... isn't it right to be a fan of a local team (i.e. Mets, Yankees, even Phillies, Pirates) and not become a fan of some random team right when they pull together a nice ballclub?

People become fans of teams for many reasons, and locality is only sometimes the reason. I've liked Arizona for as long as I can remember, starting with the 2001 playoffs when I was rooting for them and jumped off the top of my bunk bed when Luis Gonzalez blooped that ball into short center field. And honestly, I wouldn't really call myself a "fan" of them, either. I don't have any emotional attachment to them whatsoever, as most fans do. I just think that they're a really well-run club, and I want to see them win.

no. I picked the bravs when I ws young because I liked their uniforms. thats it... no big story about 1st game... or meeting someone... or anything cool... I like the uniforms. The fact aht they were good helped a TON.

You see when a team is good you DO get a TON of young fans to liek them... those are not fair weather fans... it's certainly not their fault the team whas good when they started watching. Its the people who dont show support when they are NOT good that are that "bad apples" For example. Braves were NOT good all year... I still proudly wore my braves cap and my braves t-shirts. Now if I put them away until next year... thats a fair weather fan

Read what he said,Metsguy234 HE LIKES Baseball in general & thus is a FAN of the Game/MLB - but has some "feelings"/likes each year for certain teams BASED on who plays for them ie he likes Upton or Kazmir.

Why should anyone be fan of their "local" team IF they have no affinity to those teams or even THE FANS OF THOSE TEAMS ? Also, you may live somewhere & be "brought" up elsewhere & be a fan of the team you were brought up eg live in Alaska but raised in Kansas.......

Like anyone, including yourself - he has FAVOURITE players !

I am from CT but the first football game I watched as a kid was Philly vs. Wash. when the eagles had the buddy ryan defense (white, simmons, allen, evans, brown, etc) as well as randall cunningham. In the football game I watched the eagles defense knocked out like 8 or 9 redskins from the game including both quarterbacks. the skins had to finish with i think it was a young brian mitchell at QB. It was called the 'body bag game'. They weren't a great team but had a nasty defense.

so...people fall for teams for many reasons, not just local.

    Heres a link to the game...i was only 12 at the time;

Man, that defense was SCARY good. If only the offense had been even half decent.

Exactly, I'm in Tenn and I can't stand any of the teams here pro or college. Actually since I moved here I hate the Vols more now than I did before.

Colorado and the Indians had nice, shiny beautiful stadiums. While TB may have had a new stadium also...it isn't so beautiful. They've also had to play ugly stepchild to the Bucs and then even the Lightning.

Either way, I don't think I can take listening to three or four more games of Tropicana cowbells.

There's a SNL/Christopher Walken "I gotta have less cowbell" sketch hiding in this year's post-season somewhere.

Get the writers on it, dammit!

Wasn't the Thunderdome from Mad Max??? I dont' know if anyone remembers Mad Max or not, it was a very old Mel Gibson movie, probably mid-80s...actualy i'll look it up.......

    wait for it......

    wait for it..........

It was actually filmed in 1979 wow though a special edition came out in 2002. Mel mad only 15K and it cost 400K to produce.

Mad Max two / the road warrior came out in 1981. It cost 4 mil to make and Mel made 120K.

Mad Max three was the one with the Thunderdome and its in the title. Filmed in 1985 this one cost 12 mil to produce and Mel was paid a little better earning 1.2 mil.

From w hat i've found there have been many rumors about a mad max four for years now.

As of right this second, there is not a single news story about the Red Sox win last night on the homepage of ESPN.com:
