    Alexei Ramirez got snubbed!!

I was very, very much torn over the AL MVP and wanted so badly to put Cliff Lee at the top... I looked at his stats for 10 minutes tonight before submitting my ballot... but I just couldn't. As great a season as he had... it wasn't QUITE MVP-worthy for a pitcher. Very close, but I just couldn't do it...

The reason I decided to put Lee and Halladay 1-2 isn't because their seasons are particularly MVP-worthy for a pitcher, but because no position player really stands out. it's really close.

He's a free swinger... but he did draw a walk in a crucial situation tonight, and showed impressive eye. Those 21 HRs and 4 GSs are downright impressive... especially from a guy who can play 2B, SS and CF, all quite well.

Nobody stands out at all. I think you could pick from 15 or so AL players and put them in ANY order from 1 to 10 and not have a ridiculous looking list. Even Cabrera and Huff look like top-5 candidates (though I had neither in my top 10). But Lee just wasn't dominating enough, in my opinion, to overcome Rodriguez (still baseball's best overall player, in a tie with Pujols) or Quentin (not only valuable, but priceless, in my opinion, to his team, even in shortened time).

That category took me almost as long as the rest of my ballot combined.

I know what you mean. I'm still working on my picks, and I've lost track of the number of times I've gone back to 'just change one more thing' with my damn MVP lists.

Okay, I'm getting sick of your K-Rod hate. K-Rod had a great season, and like it or not, he set the record for saving close games and making sure they don't end in losses for his team.

No, he was great, but he was not as great as you think he is.

But, as HGM said, he can easily be argued to be the 2nd best RP in the AL this season (IMO he was the best)

The 2nd best in one stat! The person you are quoting also said Jose Arrencido was better . And in my opinion, K-Rod is behind AT LEAST Papelbon, Rivera, Nathan, and Soria

No the best in that one stat... ever

And it's Jose Arredondo.... and you took that comment out of context... he said if you adjust for leverage then K-Rod is the best on his team by far and the 2nd best in the AL.

I see him being behind Papelbon and Soria as relatively weak arguments... Nathan and Rivera can be argued rather well.... especially Rivera (whom I think- lemme check his stats one more time- is the best reliever in the AL this year)

Yes, Nathan and Rivera are easily the best two, and Papelbon and Soria run slightly ahead of him

    Slightly ahead= arguably

IMO, it is K-Rod, Rivera, Nathan... K-Rod had a great season, had the perserverance to break a record... was, although I agree this shouldn't be a major factor, a member of a playoff team... and was very clutch... and IMO he was the best AL RP this year....

"Perserverance to break a record"? What exactly does that mean?

He broke the saves record because the Angels are a low-scoring team that also are good at preventing runs, so they had a lot of close games. Any very good reliever that stayed healthy the whole season would've saved 62 games, OR MORE (K-Rod blew 7 saves), if they were on the Angels.

Mariano Rivera was clearly the best reliever in the AL this year. Then there's a cluster of excellent guys right behind me, K-Rod included. I'd put K-Rod second, but that's up for debate. Any of K-Rod, Soria, Nathan, or Papelbon could be argued for 2nd place.

K-Rod isn't as bad as RedSoxRockies is making him out to be, nor is he as good as you are making him out to be. He's an excellent reliever, overrated because of the saves, but one of the top 5 in the AL, and the top 5 are all extremely close that they are effectively interchangeable.

    Agreed.
