    In my opinion to be overexposed a franchise has to be getting a lot of attention for no good reason. The Yankees have been a very good team for a long time, they are located in one of the most well known cities in the world and they truly are a global franchise. Just like any well run business they are well advertised and rightfully so, because they have an excellent product.

    The Cubs, I think are overexposed because they haven't won a pennant for 60+ years and the World Series in 100 years. I think they get so much attention because they are one of the oldest baseball franchises and baseball is all about tradition (even above achievement).

    The Cubs aren't overexposed nationally. They're a story this year, and were last year because they haven't had a team this good in ages. They also happen to be among the top 2 or 3 teams in baseball for the first time in ages. When they're not winning, they get very little national exposure considering how big the market and fan base is.

    Seattle is about 1-3 hours away from the boarder, we always get 40k of Blue Jay fans that come and watch at the Kingdome in the 90's and safeco in 00's.

    One could say that in the 90's the Braves were probably the most overly exposed team because of TNN.

    Certainly used to be the Yankees, or possibly the Cowboys. Nowadays? The Red Sox. They've beaten the Yankees by becoming them.

    Dude, the Blue Jays don't even get much exposure in CANADA, and that's damn impressive for a team based in TORONTO not to be forced down everyone's throats.

    joke I assume overexposed = best supported & that is SIMPLY cos of AD value.

    Yankees = 1
    Cowboys = 2
    Sox = 3

    That's actually a pretty good ranking based on the definition of overexposed I was using when I posted this.

    By "overexposed" I don't mean "net support."

    The equation would look something like:

    media exposure
    success (or "deservedness")

    And the highest ratio would be the "most overexposed."

    That's why I chose Ohio State: an insane amount of media exposure (more than any other college football team, including national champions LSU and this year's favorites USC), with little true success beyond regular season play to warrant such exposure. It would be the equivalent of the San Diego Chargers being the most covered team in the NFL, or the Angels being the most covered team in MLB over the last couple of years.

    I'd also consider it to be rooted in TODAY, with less consideration given to media exposure the deeper into history you go. For example, I don't think the Patriots are as overexposed as the Yankees, because the Patriots have won recent championships, have been the NFL's chief, and only, recent dynasty, and went undefeated in the regular season last year, where the Yankees have been largely unsuccessful for a few years.

    I'd rank it as:

    1. Ohio State Buckeyes
    2. New York Yankees (way too much exposure; even if the stadium weren't shutting down, they'd be getting tons of coverage)
    3. Dallas Cowboys (the NFL's true "Hollywood" team, with Romo and Owens showing up on TV way more than athletes who never won championships should; mix in some Adam Jones and Jessica Simpson and you've got a veritable circus going on)
    4. Los Angeles Lakers (are the big story whether or not they're seriously competitive; Bryant has way too big a saga, the Shaq/Kobe "feud" still gets tons of press for whatever reason, and they're always covered like they're SUPPOSED TO WIN OR ELSE)
    5. TIE -
    Boston Red Sox (more coverage than a world champion should get)
    USC Trojans (hugely overrated conference; Pete Carroll gets more TV time than any coach in football [pro or amateur]; press still glamorizing the Leinart/Bush days even though they're long gone)

    If that's the case, you might consider the Fighting Irish...a dreadful team which nonetheless managed to get national exposure for finishing out the season with a couple of wins against some tomato cans.

    is that a problem ? I would think it an ADVANTAGE

    Seriously,the Media (for ALL the pros & cons) work a simple process - their aim is too HIT the maximum of POTENTIAL readers/watchers & in sports there is a hierachy of WHO & WHAT sells.... teams' like Cowboys/Patriots/Sox/Cubs & Yankees all have a HUGE fan base - so it logical they get more coverage than say Kansas City or Pittsburgh.

    It also helps that certain teams have extra-sport "storied" athletes such as Romo/Owens in Dallas but also A-Rod (his contract/his Divorce & his "female" friends ) Jeter & Brady without forgetting Mr Ocho WHO alone sells the Bengals more than the REST of the roster combined!
